Been in a few papers and online sources last few days.

Aston Villa will battle with West Ham for the signature of Queens Park Rangers' star striker Charlie Austin when the season draws to a close.

The 25-year-old will be hot property and even more likely to be available if Rangers go down, but Villa top-flight status is also not yet secure.

Manager Tim Sherwood is confident enough to add Austin to his list of targets, though, with the claret and blues among the lowest goalscorers in Europe.

According to the Daily Mail, Aston Villa and West Ham United are targeting QPR striker Charlie Austin during this summer's transfer window.

Austin, 25, started his career with Reading before dropping down to non-league football in 2006, and enjoyed productive spells with Kintbury Rangers, Hungerford Town and Poole Town before his big move to Swindon Town in 2009.

After also impressing with Burnley, Austin is now starring in the Premier League, hitting 15 goals despite QPR's struggles in the relegation zone.

Many have touted Austin for a call-up to the England squad, but Roy Hodgson hasn't selected him for the upcoming games against Lithuania and Italy.

Regardless of whether QPR manage to stay in the Premier League or not, the big topic of conversation surrounding Chris Ramsey's men this summer will be Austin's future.

The centre forward is out of contract in 2016, and is currently stalling on the offer of a new deal to stay in West London - and the Daily Mail believe that there are three Premier League clubs attempting to sign him at the end of the season.

They suggest that Aston Villa, Everton and West Ham all have Austin high on their summer shopping lists as all attempt to improve their attacking options.

Villa have struggled for goals this season and Tim Sherwood will be keen to take some of the goalscoring pressure off Christian Benteke, whilst Everton could also look to relieve some of the weight from Romelu Lukaku's shoulders in attack.

Yet West Ham could be the best destination for Austin, with the Hammers certainly needing another striker to help the likes of Andy Carroll, Diafra Sakho and Enner Valencia.

Austin will be in demand this summer - especially if QPR are relegated back to the Championship - and other Premier League clubs will surely be pursuing him.

It will be interesting to see how our transfer policy changes (if at all) with Sherwood in charge.

I don't think a player like Austin would have fitted in with our transfer policy under Lambert.

If he's available, I'd think there will be more teams in for him than us and Wet Spam. Better clubs (in terms of competing at the right end of the table) than both of us. The only way we'd get him here is with silly money. Not while Randy is still here!

might be a replacement if Benteke goes but have seen players like Marcus Stewart, MIchael Ricketts, Grant Holt etc. all have good Premier League debut seasons and then turned out to be nothing special

True enough but he's still only 25 and scored goals whereever he has played. Grant Holt was over 30 when he played in the Premier League. I suspect he will be well sought after as goalscorers are hard to come by.

That's a complete non story released by an agent, not a single quote, will no doubt either result in him being sold in the summer for more than what he's actually worth or signing a contract for more than he's worth

Still don't have a clue how journalists are allowed to get away with stuff like this

think it be a stupid move for him to sign a new contract. QPR arent going to come straight back up with that squad and probably be hit with sanctions and he has one year left on his deal so would be wise to get a great deal now as like players who have hot Premier LEague debut seasons it might not last.

He has Spurs written all over him if ask me as can see them shipping out Soldado and Adebayor in summer and he be decent option for them

Pretty sure he only has 18 months left on his deal so the fee might not be that high.

They'll be plenty in for him so don't see us signing him, I think he'd be a good signing for Spurs if they want him.

From the links though it looks like Sherwood will be pursuing young British players mainly but ones who are a lot more experienced in top level football than the ones Lambert generally signed.
