Player drafts.. *shudders* The draft system is genuinely great, it'd just never work in a sport that's played in more than one country Drafting system is used in NHL, which is ice hockey league, and it's played in most of the northern europe, USA, Canada, Russia etc but it works because NHL is the only big professional league in north america, and biggest league in the world. It's where all the players want to play. KHL also has drafting system but the league obviously doesn't have as big draw as the NHL when it comes to the players. I'd love a salary cap and agree 100% with capping a squad salary but I see a problem in implementation. How do you set it? % turnover means you essentially maintain the status quo, and setting an arbitrary value say..... £3m a week for the total squad could encourage smaller clubs to spend up to a limit beyond their means. Of course it's not completely even but at least there's not two-three teams you know will be the only teams who can win the league (or stanley cup in this case), and can get any player they want. BG_Villa_Fan Posted March 19, 2015 Share Posted March 19, 2015 Salary cap won't work in football as it'd have to be applied to all different leagues and there's a vast difference in the budget between teams and between leagues, however, they can tighten up the 25 man squad thing. Remove some of the exceptions for it, make loaned out players count as part of the 25 man squad to stop the Chelseas from buying and loaning out hundreds of players and/or allow only home grown/academy players to be loaned out and there'd be a little more parity. Tom Brady took a big pay cut a couple of years ago to help the Patriots free up salary space and strengthen their squad and they've gone on to win a superbowl. Do you reckon Yaya would do the same? Limited to an annual salary of £50m per year. so if you want to pay someone £500k a week that's fine. But the others will be earning a pot noodle and a twix each week.
