Can't understate how massive that loss was today. The nature of it has ruined all the good spirit of the week.

There were some positives going forward, but that was a patched up Stoke team and it had to be a win. I cannot see us recovering from that result.

We'll draw v Newcastle then get thumped by the obsessed ones (who themselves are a very poor side) - I'm sure of it.

Perfectly justifiable to say nothing had changed, apart from one goal. Same team and only one forced sub the whole game...

Sherwood is really going to have to earn his corn now, we need at least a point away at newcastle and to beat west brom and sunderland in the next 3 or we are well and truly screwed.

The last 2 defeats could well cost us our top flight status. These are the matches Villa had to pick up points on. We are running out of games and winnable matches and Burnley are fighting like mad. They will probably come to Villa Park and dump us out of the division, which will be painful.

They want it to be easy.

 

We're in a lot of trouble. We had everything going for us today, a new manager, pretty much everyone fit, a good atmosphere around the place and a group of players that looked bright, lively and inventive, like they knew they needed to play well, work hard and win. That all lasted right up until we scored.

 

It's attitude. I thought it might be just not being used to leading a game, but I look at them and it's attitude. They expect the game to be easy, they scored and let out a collective sigh of relief "Phew, now we can stop having to work so hard and relax and enjoy it". It's all wrong.

 

Benteke, Gabby, Delph are all capable of much more - they're lazy - at half time they should each have a coach who spends 15 minutes slapping them around the face. Sanchez - the rock? He's a pink fluffy rock with big soft eyes, he's just too smiley, too nice. Hutton's got a bit of attitude about him, but I can't really see any of the others that seem to understand that they need to work harder to get anywhere. There's some quality, more than enough in fact, but they want it to be easy and the first chance they get to take their foot off the gas, they'll take.

 

Stoke on the other hand are crap, but they understand that if they work hard, follow a plan and keep working hard, they might capitalise on a mistake. That's what they did. That and try to keep the ball out of play whenever possible. 

 

The front two were crap, the midfield duo whilst they weren't outnumbered were massively outgunned from the opening minute and we never had any sort of control of the game. Weimann for Gil was baffling, we desperately needed to shore up the middle of the park - should have been Westwood. The new manager will know he's got a job on his hands.

 

The referee got most things right, definitely a penalty and overall he was pretty good - I thought he should have added double the four minutes he did at the end though (although quite frankly I wouldn't have wanted to watch it.)

 

For the first time in the last few years, I think we'll go down. I think it's more likely that we'll go down than stay up anyways - and it's down to a lack of character in the team. I'm genuinely angry at todays performance, we got exactly what we deserved. Which isn't to say that Stoke deserved to win, they were an insult to the game in the second half with their constant refusal to play, they deserved nothing - but they probably didn't deserve it quite as much as we did.

We hit that ground with a bump,today showed how tough this is going to be. Leadership and courage are not in our make up the so called captain is not fit and got totally caught out on both the incidents that led to goals. Not  a brain in sight from any player today and an average stoke side took the points from little boys who got shoved around a bit.Fabian did not have a forward move in him today and took the easy option all match, midfield way to light and never going to compete with sunday football tactics.Lets hope Tim saw this today and learns fast,        These boys have to become men.

Another gutless, spineless performance from a gutless and spineless team

i am not having a go at Sherwood but I have always questioned changing managers this late in the season. Lambert should have been fired at XMAS and the new manager handed a decent transfer kitty. I believe that Lerner/Fox left it late so they diddnt have to spend in the January window. Sherwood will now become the new puppet for Lerner.....keep us up without spending cash. That leaves Tim a really difficult, if not impossible task. By rights, all our anger should have been directed at Lerner! Sherwood needs to become yet another 'miracle worker' whilst Lerner escapes the considerable flak that he deserves after 4 years of underinvestment! Please Mr Lerner, give us back our club!

Right I'd take relegation if it guarantees that Lerner goes!

Dire! I have seen Sunday league players take better set pieces then our bunch! Not looking forward to work monday I work with a Stoke fan ( my manager ) he was expecting us to roll them over had the excuses ready ( half the squad injured) I even put us down for a 2-1 win on our guess the score competition. .. Last time I back us lol!!

Lerner cant sell the club now, he is gonna have no chance when we drop to the championship. Who is gonna pay his asking price? We go down we are stuck with him and I really see no light at the end of the tunnel!

If there is a game plan beyond lumping it to Gabby I couldn't see it. Sherwood was a desperate appointment and one that will now likely take us down. We are so bad it is embarrassing and the team is too good to be where it is, but if is and I cannot see how on earth they are going to get out of it.
