VT Supporter Popular Post sidcow Posted February 17, 2015 VT Supporter Popular Post Share Posted February 17, 2015 I must admit I have had a few beers. Kids are on half term so I am on baby sitting duty tomorrow. Have taken advantage with a mid week skinfull whilst watching the Leicester game and have come to a decision which will affect the rest of my life. I have had a season ticket in the lower Holte since it was built and usually have it for cup games but sometimes try and move about. Took my lad to the Leicester game and sat for the first time in the lower Trinity near the dugout leaving me only the lower North stand to complete my Villa Park set. I kind of enjoyed it as it was near the action. Gave the lino some stick and Upson when he collapsed because someone breathed upon him poor lamb. But at the end of the day I hate watching the game from the side especially from low down and the atmosphere is crap compared to the Holte. You get no perspective of the game. Ironically my normal seat is also much cleaner and with more legroom despite being half the price. Also being near the back and central I get an amazing elevated view with full perspective of the game. These drunken thoughts were going through my head so I paused the game and looked up some photos on tinternet which I remember showing my son some years ago which record the demolition of the old Holte End. Can I say right now God bless you whoever took and hosts those photos. Anyway looking at them again very nearly brought me to tears Random memories -First ever game with my mates being searched by a copper on the way in and him muttering to me "just point them out and I will have them" as they were jeering and insinuating from the steps behind him. -same game sh!thing myself thinking I wouldn't be allowed out of the ground at the end as I wasn't given a ticket on the way in. I was only a kid still and my dad had taken care of all that malarkey before and besides we sat in the old (proper) Trinity when he took me. -Celtic / Rangers - hot sunny day heat rippling Zulu chants from lower North. F@ckin good reason to never sit there. - bleating like sheep - the left side / the right side (I was left but I now sit right) - the victorian toilets with blokes p!ssing up a wall where there was no urinal flooding the whole toilet and it running out the door into the concourse - kids standing on milk crates (you can see them left there in the demolition photos - Alan Evans penalty v arsenal to come back from 3 - 0 down. Villa are back - standing at the very back of the Holte literally on coppers toes to avoid a knees up mother brown battering - Steve Hunt own goal - getting in really late and emerging into the stand just in time to see Alan McInally receive the ball v millwall - less than 9000 for a first team game I think it was Southampton or Bradford but I added 1 - God rest his soul and not his fault but Bernard Gallagher is the worst player I have ever seen pull on the shirt. - missing a Trevor Francis hattrick because of a bus strike. No way to get in after half an hour late -Sid came back and then again and then stayed - AV on the floodlights -absolutely no word of a lie. Queing 10 deep at the gun barrels one new years Eve late 80's the guy behind me taps me on the shoulder and says "excuse me mate do you go down the villa?" yes I reply, why? "I thought I recognise the back of your head. I stand behind you" God's honest truth. My job normally entails the odd corporate which I always tried to keep to one a year as I really prefer to sit in my normal seat but it has now changed so hopefully no more invites which brings me to my life altering decision. To cut a long story long I have decided that for the rest of my entire life I will never sit anywhere else other than the Holte End. I may go upper for variation but nowhere else, ever. I can't understand why you would sit anywhere else though it has taken me 30 years to work that out. UTV

Wezbid
Living away from Birmingham I haven't really had the opportunity to see many games over the years, all but 1 have been from the Holte End though, the atmosphere in there has always been class, the other game was in the North Stand and not a patch on the Holte End though. Some really great memories. It's been years since I've been to a game live as I live and also support Wrexham so most of my weekends are following them. I'm sorry to slightly diverge from the topic but it's somewhat related and I can't make a new thread as a newbie. My querie is that because it's been so long since I've been to a game I have no idea of parking. I'm visiting an old friend in Coventry on Friday night and on my return to North Wales on Saturday I've decided to take advantage and take in Sherwood's first game from the wonderful Holte End. I'll be on my own so may look a bit of a weirdo but I don't care. Anyways, back to my question, I am wondering where the best place to park is, not too far away as I don't know the area at all as it's been so long, I don't mind paying a couple of quid but I don't want to be fleeced either. Just hoping some of you friendly folk could help me out on places you'd recommend and/or avoid please? Apologies again for going off on a bit of a tangent but I wasn't sure how else to get any informed answers. To make it more relevant I will upload pics from my return to the Holte End if that helps matters.

I "sit" on the back row in the lower Holte so have no problems Plus you get the Holte suite which IMO is better than anything else I've seen in any ground (admittedly I haven't been in many other home ends)

Usually I take the first exit off the expressway and then take the first left (don't know the road name) there are usually spaces either on the road if you get there early enough, or you'll come to some parking areas which are about £5 for matchdays. Yeah but you can give shit to the dickhead who sits about 3 seats in front of me, every time he boos a player a cheer a player, it's a lot of work but I find it funny
VT Supporter chappy Posted February 17, 2015 VT Supporter Share Posted February 17, 2015 I went in the lower north for the Palace and Blackpool games (bought the tickets at the same time), never again. Never been in the witton stand so can't comment on there but the Holte is the one for me. First game on there was relegating Coventry, what a day. Had a good day minus the hangover, freezing cold, poor game of football, result and getting out of Birmingham. Apart from that, woo hoo!
