 I think it is quite comical to formulate opinions on Tims stature based on hanging on to one liners and quips that he may choose to use, in the after match press interview.

Most Football Managers have an agenda when they face the media....lets not take TOO much notice of what the say, most of it is for effect, or countering earlier issues.

It would be wise to  base our opinions on what we see on match day..... but we must appreciate that with all the talent we have.....and we all want to see it and wax lyrical when they apply it.....The ugly stuff must be appreciated as necessary evil to gain points.

Tim Sherwood set out to take the sting out of what is a vibrant Birmingham city team who are flying in the championship....They are on the front foot and despite our partisan  approach to the game you have to give them a bit of credit.

We have seen far worse teams than Blues turn us over at Villa Park.

Its folly to accuse him of setting out to play like that and to say he set the team up to get booed is quite ridiculous......He got it right last night and we are still debating him.

We have been playing well in spells this season despite the results being pants and now we have the result and some are bitching about the first half......( I have never been interested in first halves) we could get relegated on good first halves and poor second halves of every game.

It is starting to sound like heads you are crap Tim...Oh Tails you are crap Tim

Some Fans didn't like Ron Saunders.....They are never going to change if they don't like Tim.

I like Tim Sherwood and happy he is Manager of our club.

Do I think he will be a long terms success, I  thinks so, but cannot be sure any more than his detractors can be sure he will be a failure.

There will be events in this season, when each camp will have the moment to support their stance.

This season will be up & down and I don't see a level of consistency coming yet.

My advice to all is.....Don't kick him when he needs all the support he can get......and don't start ordering planes with bunting to applaud him, when we have a good win.

To be honest it was nice to see Villa be the other way round so to speak. I have lost count the number of times we have started off well in games only to capitulate in the last half an hour. We won the game and that's what counts. But we really need to improve drastically in the league if Sherwood is to gain the confidence of the fans, looking at the coming fixtures it's going to be tough, If we don't win certain must-win games then we could find ourselves cut adrift in the relegation zone.

i dont think ive ever seen a team setup intentionally to play two complete oppisate play style and that it was always the plan to switch at HT.  Usually teams play more defensive at certain times of the game and then later become more creative/expressive (is expressive the right word to use there?) but the style of play generally stays similar, not be complete oppisate. It seems pretty idiotic from a theory POV for that to the plan.

I think we should play well for 90 mins and we'll get better results than 2-2 home to Sunderland and 2-3 at Leicester.

Liverpool been a decent hunting ground for us in the last few years, hopefully we can play on their lack of form.

I don't really give a damn what Sherwood says in interviews after games when we win. However if I bother listening when we lose I would like hear if he understands what went wrong. That said if we start winning more and he makes the team click he can spout as much BS as he likes whenever he likes!

Frankly there is too much emphasis on the personalities and what is said off the pitch. It almost impossible nowadays to find articles or programmes that discuss the actual football - I would be much happier if the morons and so called journos on TalkSport, Radio Five, the Sun, DM, Mirror etc all ***** off and got proper jobs

I am ultimately only interested in the football and getting the right results.

We are finding it a tad hard to believe that a Premier League manager’s plan against Championship opposition was to let them think they were much, much better…

When Alex McLeish is in the Sky Sports studio baffled at the amateurish nature of Aston Villa’s first-half performance, you know things are going badly. One shot on target badly. Just 72% pass completion badly. Hit hopeful/hopeless balls towards the head of Rudy Gestede (who has defiantly not got a good touch for a big man) badly. Dwight Yorke seemed almost close to tears as he talked about a basic lack of quality in a Villa side playing against Championship Birmingham and looking very much second best.

Centre-half Ciaran Clark was predictably lost in midfield (while actual midfielder Carlos Sanchez was sat on the bench), the ball was bouncing off Gestede, Scott Sinclair was continuing his love affair with hitting the side netting from a very tight angle and Gabby Agbonlahor looked like he was playing with the weight of all his ladyfriends on his back.

At half-time something had to change. And it did. Agbonlahor came off for Jordan Ayew, while Joleon Lescott was substituted and replaced by Jack Grealish, who entirely changed the match by moving in between Birmingham’s lines, linking with Ayew and wonderful left-back Jordan Amavi and generally playing football. Things were better. Two shots on target (one of which was a goal) better. An impressive 85.5% pass completion better. Not brilliant, not groundbreaking, but much, much better.

We expected manager Tim Sherwood – after being widely criticised for his bizarre substitutions against Crystal Palace and Leicester – to soak up the applause for making positive changes while acknowledging that the first half was truly awful. ‘I fixed it’ should have been the proud boast, and we would have said ‘fair play; he fixed it’.

But no. ‘I planned it’ was the proud boast. Yorke’s distraught face was an absolute picture as Sherwood explained that he had planned to be so utterly terrible in the first half in order to lull Birmingham into a false sense of security. Apparently his plan at home against a Championship side in a derby game was an extended version of rope-a-dope.

“The plan worked,” said Sherwood with a straight face. “We went two different ways. First half, we looked to stretch them out, go very direct.

“Second half, they could not cope with the change. We looked to get the ball down, we popped it around, and found space in between lines. Before you know it, the ball is in the back of the net, because Grealish has got in between lines and flicked it out.

“We always want to play free-flowing football but sometimes you’re not capable of doing that. We let them know that we are willing to mix it up. It wasn’t pretty, we understand that, but we are looking to get a result.

“Second half, I think if you look at the position of their centre-halves, they pushed another 10 yards further back, and they could not adjust.”

So it was a cunning plan. A cunning plan that relied entirely on Birmingham not scoring in that opening 45 minutes when Jacques Maghoma and Demarai Gray failed to convert very good chances gifted to them by Villa’s incompetence. That’s one ballsy plan.

We would happily call bullsh*t at this point but that would obviously look churlish after a 1-0 win. So we will instead leave the last word to Birmingham manager Gary Rowett:

“I have heard Tim said he purposely let us do that in the first half so they could change tactics in the second half but I’m not sure a tactic of getting booed at half-time would particularly be a good one.”

A post that starts with sack this moron has got a load of likes, the day after we've progressed in the cup after beating our local rivals. From some who didn't want Lambert to go. Amazing. 

I think people are really jumping on the chance to take the piss, Sherwood didn't say the plan was to play badly and get booed off, he said the plan was to play direct in order to push their defence back and set up space for us in the second half with a different approach. I'm not sure I buy it, but its certainly not worth the stick some can't wait to dish out after we've beaten Birmingham city in a cup competition. 

This amount of stick for a guy who has had 7 games with HIS squad is absolutely ridiculous. It's the sort of stuff I'd expect from Newcastle fans, after 5 years of utter shit I really don't know why fans won't get behind such massive changes, that most wanted and were over the **** moon with.

Getting a 'like' doesn't necessarily mean agreeing btw, or agreeing with every point being made. I liked the contribution and the effort made. The top line was probably the bit I disagreed with most. Do some of you really only 'like' posts that only align with your own view? How vain.

He's an absolute bell end to be fair.

I'm happy for him to be our manager and think he did a very good job last year and, whilst it's too early to tell, I think he'll do a good job this year too.

But I think he's a dick. That's probably why some people dislike him more than is rational. Jose Mourinho is a dick as well by the way, I'm not saying it effects his performance.
