Popular Post flamingsombrero
It's far from perfect but at least it keeps ITV's filthy mitts off the highlights.
VT Supporter Rodders Posted January 29, 2015 VT Supporter Share Posted January 29, 2015 another show in midweek? jeez. the MOTD extra seems remarkably unnecessary as it is!
dAVe80
Pleased about this. The prospect of having to listen to Beautiful Day, followed by 80 mins of the top 4, followed by 10 mins of everyone else, makes me want to move to Iran. theboyangel
another show in midweek? jeez. the MOTD extra seems remarkably unnecessary as it is! I think it depends on what they do with it to be honest - if it's just Garth Crooks, Savage and Mark Chapman talking their usual brand of bollocks then I wouldn't bother with it. However, if they got in an ex-referee, a journo alongside pundits to discuss the 'talking' points of the previous matches and forthcoming games it could be quite interesting. Zatman
another show in midweek? jeez. the MOTD extra seems remarkably unnecessary as it is! they have to compete with Sky though who have all sorts of different shows especially as Sky nearly always have a midweek game whether Carling Cup or Champions LEague
dAVe80
It's amazing how much coverage we get these days. I think people expect it now. Back in the day it used to MOTD Saturday night, The Big Match on Sunday afternoon, and if you were lucky, you might get to see the goals on Central News. Moderator blandy Posted January 29, 2015 Moderator Share Posted January 29, 2015 There was always Sportsnight and Midweek Soccer Special - I used to love them - even the theme music seemed to somehow capture the floodlights in the night shining down on the green grass and people in their coats massed onto dark terraces..
will87
Wish they'd get a new presenter for it, I can't stand Lineker, talks like he's reading a storybook to a class of 5-year-olds. God knows how much he must be getting paid to lean forward in his chair and read off the autocue.
Jimzk5
Cant wait for the new review show. Phil Neville, Kevin kilbane and Robbie savage pointing out the bleeding obvious. "if he puts that in the net he scores there" In fairness, motd itself is very limited with time to do proper in depth analysis so it probably does need a show dedicated to doing the analysis, a mix of ex pros, refs and journos would be a decent watch if presented right. Mantis
MoTD pundits nowadays really are shit. I'd take Shearer, Lawro and Hansen over Kilbane, Neville and Savage any day.
useless
I'd take all highlights of the actual games without any pundits at all.
CarewsEyebrowDesigner
It's boring, outdated, and a waste of money.
useless
This might be an unpopular opinion but I don't like the theme tune. The Grandstand one was so much better.
VT Supporter mjmooney Posted January 29, 2015 VT Supporter Share Posted January 29, 2015 The OLD MOTD tune was better.

Ah yeah! Sports Night. Football on usually after the amateur boxing, and the crown bowling.
useless
This was the original A lot better. Presumably that tune was followed up by news reports from the Western Front. I think they edited down using the best parts, at about 35 seconds it really starts to propel. Edited January 30, 2015 by useless

The Fun Factory
Agree with above. MOTD is not perfect (bad puns, football cliches, dull dreary retired pundits, annoying shouty commentators, chappers, no sense of perspective, never invite a ref to give his or her viewpoint, bants, constantly cross adverting other BBC shows, etc, etc)- but it would be far, far, far, better than what ITV would offer. Namely about 30% less coverage and 50% more on Manchesterpool FC.
