KSV
Credit for doing his job? I think he's going to be a big player for us this season but I can't see why he deserves praise for trying hard in pre season. Well you were saying it could be his attitude being the reason he was dropped. It clearly wasnt. Good on him for fighting still. A lot of other players would whinge or leave. We haven't heard a peep. He's training the house down. Credit is deserved.
dont_do_it_doug.
Credit deserved for going to work and doing his job? Give over. What is interesting is that he appears to be in the managers plans.
Popular Post dudevillaisnice
Carles Gil is going nowhere and will be an integral part of the Aston Villa first-team next season, boss Tim Sherwood has revealed. The Spaniard struggled to make an impact under Sherwood last term and was expected to move on this summer. But since returning to pre-season training and spending ‘quality time’ with the 22-year-old here in Portugal, Sherwood has seen a different side to Gil. His quality was never in doubt, but fitting him into a struggling Villa side was a risk, as the gaffer explained to the Birmingham Mail. “He is going to play a lot more football this year because we’re not in that situation where it’s a relegation battle,” said Sherwood. “I didn’t know him (last season) and we were playing a different way. “It was almost like we needed to get over the line. “The team wasn’t winning so in the end the manager has to make a decision. “I always talk about that jigsaw and unfortunately he wasn’t part of that intense approach we needed to win games. “I needed to put players in who I trusted a little bit more. “It’s different now, and hopefully we can get him on the ball in important areas of the field.” Silky-skilled Gil has really impressed here in the Algarve. His team-mates love training with him because they know he rarely misplaces passes and he has that creative spark. Former boss Paul Lambert signed him to play as a wide man but Sherwood reckons he’s best suited just behind the striker. “I see his best position as a No 10,” the manager said. “Until we exhaust what he has to offer I don’t think it’s right to bring anyone else in to that position. “He is a very technically gifted player. “He has shown me a lot in this pre-season already that he can play and affect things for us.” Villa have been linked with the likes of Groningen’s Tjaronn Chery and Dennis Praet of Anderlecht but the search for a new arrival has slowed down because of Gil’s form. Sherwood said: “I’ve spoken to Carles, it’s hard for him to understand he’s not played and all of a sudden he will. That’s life. “Hopefully he is (like a new signing). “He has done well in pre-season, he’s come back and he really knows there is an opportunity there for him. “I think he impressed the fans so much when he first signed because everyone else was so poor. “He came in with a lot of freedom but even though it was working okay for him, the team were struggling.” http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/aston-villa-portugal---carles-9668884#ICID=FB-Birm-avfc

Stevo985 Posted July 16, 2015 VT Supporter Share Posted July 16, 2015 Great to hear he's part of the plans. Still don't understand him being frozen out last season, but as long as he gets his chance (which it sounds like everyone in the squad will if they haven't already) then it's water under the bridge. Popular Post bobzy
Sees him as a No. 10 rather than a wide player. Played with 2 "No. 10's" at points last season. Grealish and Gil? Yes please.

He's kind of said it there, he needed lads he knew, Carles was in a free role and doing well under Lambert but the team as such were not. I'd imagine he's seen Zog & he's seen Gil & thought one of these had an unreal end of the season before did a lot to keep Wigan up and got a £10m transfer which one am I going to pick so I'm not managing a Championship team next year. GREAT_BEARD_OF_ZEUS
Great news!! But... “Until we exhaust what he has to offer I don’t think it’s right to bring anyone else in to that position." Meaning we won't be signing Dennis Praet any time soon
DCJonah
Well Sherwood's comments have made this thread the one that contains the most ridiculous comments on VT. Good news.
BOF Posted July 16, 2015 Moderator Share Posted July 16, 2015 The hope was that last season was just horses for courses and Timothy has basically confirmed that there. He needed hands on the pump that he trusted at the time.

DCJonah
I can't see why people take exception to fans complimenting a player's attitude :/ I just don't see the difference in his attitude and the rest of the squad. I think because it's a player who caused over the top ridiculous comments last year that he's probably singled out for praise over others. I don't really see why though. He's showing a great attitude, which is good, but everyone seems to be.
