I think he'd work well with Jedinak, Lansbury and Hourihane but it seems like neither side is keen for him to stay here so unfortunately, that's that.

He was always on a hiding to nothing joining the club in it's biggest slump for decades.

Has anyone heard any rumours about him going anywhere? It's all gone very quiet on him. Has he returned for pre season training?

Don't think he has.

Which is strange when Veretout and others leaving have.

Hmmm.. Hopefully that means a deal is as good as signed. Odd he shouldn't return when the likes of Amavi and Vertout have.

Either that or some kind of mutually agreeable cancellation has been agreed and not announced.

Amavi played games for us on a regular basis last season so until any deal is done he remains our player and would have been the most likely of the three to have turned up for pre-season given he stuck around after relegation rather than looked for an early exit (having no doubt felt he owed us something after his lengthy injury).

Veretout clearly wants away but has reluctantly turned up so he will still get paid but with an attitude that shows he would rather be elsewhere.

If Gil has not turned up (without good reason) it suggests to me that he wants to make it very clear that he is not prepared to play for us ever again and by doing that he anticipates we will send him out on loan again or accept a low bid for him. That sort of attitude would be hard to accept given so many fans wanted him to play when he was here and would not have said no to having him back here next season so I hope he has an acceptable reason/has agreed his non-attendance with the club.

He put a picture of him in an airport up on Instagram on Tuesday morning so could either be going out to meet the villa squad or in an airport in a random country getting a permanent move over the line.

Sounds like Amavi and Veretout could be off too? Getting a few out the door

I think hes flying back to Spain. A deal was close last week apparently. Probably flying over for a medical

I doubt anyone at the club is even arsed about him coming back to training to be honest. Just get him out the door for a few mil. Surely there will be one taker.

though if a transfer isn't close, then you want him back training just to retain transfer fee value

hes got an injury too it seems.

Slight niggle but nothing serious - just a question of deportivo agreeing a fee.

Real Betis has just sold Dani Ceballos to Real Madrid for £18m so they just might come back with an offer for Gil now.

They were supposedly one of the clubs looking at him.

Carles Gil has returned to Deportivo La Coruna on a season-long loan.

Attacking midfielder Gil will rejoin Pepe Mel’s squad after spending the 2015/16 campaign with the La Liga side.

Gil joined Villa in January 2015 from Valencia and has made 34 appearances and scored three goals in claret and blue.

Kinda annoying how Gil was loaned. We need the transfer money! Can't see him playing for Villa again so don't understand why it's not a permanent deal.

They don't want to pay fees, we don't want the player.  Presumably he's just going to be loaned out until his contract runs out (any idea anyone?).

Hope we don't roll over and do the same with veretout - we need cash .

So what was the rush to get him out on loan? surely a loan deal could have waited until the last week of the transfer window to give other clubs a chance to make a bid.
