P3te
To be fair, they've basically gotten Defoe for 25k a week all in, given that they got Altidore off the books. Decent business if you look at it that way

Decent business if you look at it that way Which would be great business if Defoe was 27, not 32 & last decent season was 5 years ago. If he scores a few goals and he keeps them out of trouble its great business short term. As someone put it last page, he is the reincarnation of our darren bent deal. Decent business if you look at it that way Ha! That's not how it works though it's it. That would be like us swapping them Darren Bent for him and then claiming we're only paying £10k a week for him. Decent business if you look at it that way They didn't have to waste £14m on Defoe to get Altidore off the books, they could have just sold him to the MLS and made a profit. In theory if Defoe keeps them up this season then he will have been worth it. It's very similar to when we signed D. Bent. VillaChris
Levy yet again getting good price for mediocre squad players. Edit: I'd imagine Joe Bennett has played more premier league games than Naughton in the last two years, Lowton aswell. I wonder what price we'd get for those two when we sell them. Except for nothing close to the same amount of money... Yes but the money is all relevant to the players age, we didn't sign bent when he was 32. Both were equally expensive IMO and both were/will be poor value for the money in the long run.

If Sunderland stay up and Defoe makes a significant contribution to that then he has paid his fee. Relegation costs at least £60m in lost revenue so unless they pay more than that for Defoe they can consider themselves to be up on the deal. HanoiVillan
Jordan Mutch has gone from QPR to Palace. Weird one, don't know why he didn't get more game time at QPR considering he looked pretty good last season, but I guess Arry has decided he likes battlers in the middle of the park. The_Rev
Andre Schurrle looks like he is going back to Germany for a bigger fee than Chelsea paid for him 18 months ago. You have to admit they are playing the market beautifully of late.
P3te
Andre Schurrle looks like he is going back to Germany for a bigger fee than Chelsea paid for him 18 months ago. You have to admit they are playing the market beautifully of late. They're the masters of the transfer market at the moment. They've so many players out on loan right now, and so much value in the overall squad, that FFP is a complete irrelevance to them now. They'll always be able to generate enough money to buy and pay whoever they want - and when they don't plan on making major signings, they'll spend money on prospects that they can loan out and then sell on for twice the price. It's brilliant
The_Rev
It's also monopolistic behaviour. They can only do it because they are in a position of strength that hardly anybody else can be in. It feels exploitative and I don't like it at all, but what can anybody do about it? We just changed to a system which actively encourages the 1% to do this to everybody else.
