Is celebrating an away goal among home fans ever acceptable?

If you're going to sit in the home end as an away fan (or vice versa but much less likely) you shut da fuq up, pretend to celebrate when the opposition score and quietly exit the ground, anything else and your either brave, naive or plain stupid (or a combination of all three).

The only time I've found myself conflicted was when we played Brighton in the cup a few years back and a chap with his missus and kids celebrated Brighton's goal a few rows in front of me in the North Stand lower, they were rounded upon quickly by quite a few fans and the stewards intervened and they were escorted out, given that it was the FA Cup and they were two divisions below us having their biggest day out for quite a while I must admit I though that was a tad harsh but still, they shouldn't have celebrated so openly.

To me, it's simply a matter of good manners. You don't go into a someone's house and slag them off or boast about your own superiority. I don't object to the odd away fan in the home end, I've had to do it myself enough times, but they are effectively there on sufferance, and should show respect to their hosts.

I agree with this 100%.

I don't really care if there's a few away fans in the home end, but know where you are and have some respect for the people around you.

In terms of the story with the guy and his two kids, I have no problem with them being there, but celebrating a goal is just stupid. If they wanted to show their appreciation for the goal they could have just clapped. I've done that a few times when the opposition score a brilliant goal.

The age thing also does not really make a difference.  I mean what is the difference between a 9 year old  and a 12 year old, or a 16 year old?

(Also known as the Saville argument)

The whole kids thing is a straw man in the first place.  The dad is the one in the wrong here and pointing to the ages of his children just deflects from the issue.  As the club statement said, it's made clear on multiple occasions both at the point of sale and upon entry to the stadium that the seats they were occupying were for home supporters only.    Manchester is only 100 miles away, he could easily take them to Old Trafford instead.

Nothing wrong with away fans in the home just so long as they keep their mouths shut. I actually went to the Spurs game with a couple of Spurs fans and to their credit they didn't say a word when Kane got that late winner. But yeah, celebrating amongst the home fans is never acceptable.

And what is it with United fans and being in the home end at VP? Seems to happen so much.

Mantis, for the Spurs game, were you in Upper Holte, K7?

I'm 3 rows from the front, and I remember seeing 3 lads, in their early twenties, in the row infront of me, two of which looked like Spurs fans.

The unbelievable stupidity of the sentences 'the kids are half and half fans' and 'we didn't celebrate benteke's goal' is ridiculous.

No sympathy for him or his little scrotebag children.

dont mind away fans in home ends but im not going to sit quietly while they celebrate next to me. if your going in the home end then have the brains to shut up and to celebrate with your kids with you is stupid as you could be putting them at risk of getting hurt if trouble did flair up. some people might think why on earth cant people just put up with it as there is plenty of worse things going on in the world but unfortunately thats just the way it is. i dont want football to be all nicey nice and i dont like the way football has gone although i must admit its better than all the violence we had in the dark days, but yeah football grounds have gone too prawn sandwich brigade now and its far pleasent for my liking.

**** tool

Stop going on about the family stand you moron. They're home seats for supporters. Not for you and your devil spawned, self-entitled glory hunting sprogs.

Totally agree and him saying his kids are 50/50 between Villa and united if that was the case how come they didn't celebrate the Benteke goal? He said there mum is a Villa fan is it not wierd  that she didn't go with them?!

I get quite emotional when I'm watching the football, there's a good chance I'd have had a wry expletive for that wee lad for celebrating like that, "family" stand or not. I once told a 13 year old girl to shut the **** up after listening to her berate Milan Baros for weeks on end. It was a spur of the moment act of frustration and honestly her dad was clearly a bit of a gimp for not smacking me on the nose. I'd have deserved it.

Say somebody turns to a 7 year old boy, calls him a word removed, the dad pipes up and all hell breaks loose? How on earth anyone can think that kind of risk taking is acceptable I do not know. He should be ashamed.

I went to QPR vs West Brom at the weekend, in the Baggies end. It was a dire game despite the scoreline, and I was as neutral towards their equal ineptitude as could be. But out of respect, I put my arms up in the air and applauded the West Brom goals along with attempting to look sullen when they blew a 2 goal lead, despite actually rather enjoying it. Why? Because I'm adult enough to know my place in that situation. As a 7 year old I would not have been and I would not expect my father to have put me in that kind of situation.

clearing in the woods.

i remember me and my mate sitting in the revie end at leeds as the villa end was sold out, we won 2.1  :D  its when leeds were flying and had a good team and i remember we went 2.1 up and the villa fans started singing you're gonna win f*** all. the leeds fans didnt like that, me and my mate just looked at each other and grinned. we went up there with our other two mates who were leeds season ticket holders and they were sat a few rows back, we just calmly kept turning around every now and again and winking at them. we drank in the peacock and the white hart before the game which was a bit dodgy and had to make out we were leeds fans.

He was genuinely angry as well.

If you don't want to get kicked out, sit in the correct end. If you can't sit in the correct end, get a booking history rather than being an armchair fan. If you HAVE to sit in the wrong end, teach your scrotebag sprogs etiquette.

Then if you HAVE to moan about it on national radio, don't bareface lie about it either.

Absolute word removed of the highest order. Hope his name is blacklisted on the system and he can never get tickets again.
