in the case of pterosaurs, yes probably correct but there are definitely rat like mammals from the Cretacious Period that have been discovered fossilised complete with what we would recognise as hair

But Xann ain't wrong. Because it doesn't always fossilise, and the fossil record itself is a tiny fraction of what lived, we can't rule out there being a 'Neil from the Young Ones-osaurus' :D
