Slipknot - The Gray Chapter.

A relentless, brutal return. Nothing else I've heard this year even comes close.

I actually think it's been a very good year. Not sure I've parted with cash for an album I've not liked this year. Top choices In no particular order:

Earth - Primitive and Deadly

Mogwai - Rave Tapes

The Roots - ...And Then You Shoot Your Cousin

Dilated Peoples.- Directors of Photography

Aphex Twin - Syro

Goat - Commune

Thurston Moore - The Best Day

More will come to me I'm sure. Will need to have a look at my records.

Everything new I've picked up has been old.

Well surprised by new stuff in 2013, pretty disappointed in 2014.

Will buy the Aphex Twin, Temples and Flying Lotus from Fopp when they're cheap.

I've still not got around to hearing, Sharon Van Etten - Are We There. I really liked Tramp, so need to get my finger out. Think she's playing the Sage early next year too, so may have to go see her show.

I've just had a little listen to The War on Drugs, may pick that album up. I got the sense of trying to be Dylan, Boss, Young etc... but I worry that's all I will hear, a no sense of identity type thing. Do you forget about it the more you listen?

My mate has been raving about The War on Drugs album, but I've been a bit resistant to it (mainly as it really pisses him off that I've not listened to it, and that makes me laugh). I think I'd probably like it. Another friend described it as, like Dylan singing the songs of Tom Petty. Is it worth risking having to admit to my mate, I listened to it, and liked it?

Yep, it's basically Dylan/Petty/Springsteen/Dire Straits/Fleetwood Mac, all circa 1979/80. The production and the drumming spoil it for me, but still one of the best of a bad bunch if you like the sort of stuff that I do.

fair enough, It was one I bought very early on this year so I wasn't sure on that one. Still, I listened to it first in 2014 so I'm counting it :D
