There was a sound engineer in the '80s and '90s from Manchester, he worked live with all the Manchester bands from The Fall, ACR and through the Madchester thing, we shall call him Big Al (because that might actually have been his name). You knew Big Al was running the rig and the soundcheck had begun because this was his first port of call EVERY time.
