penguin Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 What a right dirty barsteward this guy is. Tried to like him as he is some player, but kicking out and swinging arms into faces etc I just don't see the need.
The_Rev Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 He was like that in Spain too. Don't worry about it, every league needs a pantomime villain and Costa will fill the void left by Luis Suarez.

Indeed, he suits this Chelsea side and their pantomime villain manager so well. Not too many players about who suit their side better than he does Chelsea. Maybe Phil Bardsley at Stoke. Great, all round forward.
maqroll Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 He adds some spice to what has become a somewhat boring league lately
NurembergVillan Posted November 30, 2014 Moderator Posted November 30, 2014 Any player ever had 20 yellow cards in a season yet?
chappy Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 I had an anytime goalscorer treble yesterday at 19/1 : Rooney, Joe Cole and Costa... rocket polisher!
Tomaszk Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 (edited) Any player ever had 20 yellow cards in a season yet? Probably not in England. Surely not! At the moment, if it were to happen, they'd be missing more matches than Lee Cattermole. You're suspended for an increasing number of games depending on how many sets of five bookings you pick up, but the number could peak at 3 I'm not sure. Play in games 1-5 Out for 6 Play in 7-11 Out for 12 & 13 Play in 14-18 Out for 19-21 Play in 22-26 Out for 27-29/30 So it could happen, you've got eight or nine games spare to not get booked. The_Rev Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Robbie Savage holds the record with 14 I think. Maybe you could get 20 in a season if you included international football and champions league, but in a premier league games only I think the suspensions issued during the course of the season would make it virtually impossible to reach 20 cards.
ThunderPower_14 Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Does it statistically count as 2 yellows if you get a second yellow in the one game? What are the rules around accumulation of reds?
villa4europe Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 After a certain number of games they stop suspensions for the 5 and 10 yellow cards don't they? So to rack up a silly number you'd have to do it at the end of the season
Jimzk5 Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Years ago he would have been classed as a cheating dirty bastard. Now its described as 'clever play'. Sigh 2
Guest Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Years ago he would have been classed as a cheating dirty bastard. Now its described as 'clever play'. Sigh Yep. Just as Suarez's dive to win the penalty against us was clever play.
Brumstopdogs Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 He should have been sent off for kicking out yesterday IMO.
turnbull Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 After seeing Benteke sent off for a push on the cheek it makes my blood boil that tossers like Costa can get away with worse, not just once but at least 3 times if not more. 1
Zatman Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 always been a dirty player but think if he lost that aggression he wouldnt be half as good
choffer Posted December 1, 2014 VT Supporter Posted December 1, 2014 The guy is box office. I'd rather have a "character" like him that yet another anodyne clone of a footballer who never steps out of line and never takes a risk. 1

That elbow he did the weekend was dangerous play, the kick out was worthy of a red card.
Zatman Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 only saw it once but dont think it was intentional elbow as both players seemed to jump for the ball
penguin Posted December 1, 2014 Author Posted December 1, 2014 Got to be intentional for me, why swing your arm out like that. And the kick is just a disgrace.

I get what you're saying and if he deliberately goes out to hurt someone (and only he will know for sure that he does) that's one thing but who wouldn't love an "enforcer" type of player playing for their team. He plays with passion and an obvious desire to win. I like that in a player, even if he does regularly overstep the mark. Edited December 2, 2014 by choffer
