I was on holiday in Weston Super Mare that day. My 10th birthday, and I got given David Platt and Nigel Spink figures, and World In Motion by New Order on tape. It rained.

A few highlights from my birthday: The Wombles, The Raccoons, Carry on Constable and, my personal favourite, 'AIDS: Getting the message across'. I imagine my parents sat down to watch that when they got me home from the hospital.

BBC1 had the final day of the third test between England and New Zealand.

They Who Dare was the evening movie.

BBC2 had Average White Band on the Old Grey Whistle Test.

No wonder my dad didn't make it to the hospital.
