JoshVilla
We have a top 10 films and artists thread, so I thought it'd be interesting to list our top 10 albums(or however many you can manage; it's bloody difficult). I think that it's quite interesting how our top albums might be from different artists to those in our top 10. In a random order: Aja - Steely Dan Close to the Edge - Yes Thriller or Off the Wall - Michael Jackson Morning View - Incubus Lateralus - Tool Deloused in the Comatorium - The Mars Volta The Nightfly - Donald Fagen Total Life Forever - Foals Crack the Skye - Mastodon Undecided on which Porcupine Tree album to put here. (apologies if this thread has already existed)
VT Supporter mjmooney Posted October 17, 2014 VT Supporter Share Posted October 17, 2014 (edited) Astral Weeks (Van Morrison) Layla (Clapton) Who's Next (The Who) Late For The Sky (Jackson Browne) California Bloodlines (John Stewart) English Electric: Full Power (Big Big Train) Blood On The Tracks (Dylan) Harvest (Neil Young) With The Beatles. Court And Spark (Joni Mitchell) EDIT: As with the artists thread, jazz and classical excluded. Would make equally indispensable lists in their own right. VT Supporter Rodders Posted October 17, 2014 VT Supporter Share Posted October 17, 2014 (edited) whilst I listen to plenty of music, there are so few albums that I connect with in the same way as film or books, so my top 10 is likely to be based mostly on nostalgia. No particular order 1. Space - Spiders - first album I bought myself, so has immense nostalgic value, plus even listening back now it's still pretty good 2. Gogol Bordello - Gypsy Punks: Underdog World Strike - such a terrifically insane gypsy-punk-rock album that was the soundtrack to my 2nd year at University. 3. Jon Hopkins - Immunity - new album, only introduced to it at the beginning of the year and initially didn't take to it, but this is the first year I've begun to listen to electronica and over the past few months I revisited it a few times and love it to pieces now 4. Pink Floyd - Animals - a few years ago whilst doing my Masters I was on the look out for music to properly either relax me or help me concentrate - this album helped me do both - and is my favourite Pink Floyd album. 5. Fleetwood Mac - Rumours - only came upon it relatively recently ( this year! ) and has become a go to album frequently. 6. Warren Zevon - The Wind - I love Zevon's work but this album is my favourite I think - whether it's the somewhat heart-breaking nature of it - his final one before succumbing to cancer I couldn't say, but this one again get's regular playtime . 7. Gaslight Anthem - 59 Sound - based on pure repeat listens - this punk-rock album has to be included. A classic case of an early album that ends up trumping pretty much everything released since by some distance, but still very good all the same. 8. Frank Turner - England Keep My Bones - there are albums with better Turner songs on them, but this one has personal significance for memories of ladies past and escapades enjoyed whilst listening to this one. 9. Captain Beefheart - Trout Mask Replica - another one that I was introduced to at University and stuck with me, haven't listened to it a while but again, takes me back to a carefree time again 10. John Grant - Pale Green Ghosts - another recent one, and again, during a time I was rediscovering an interest in new music, came across this album and really took to it well. Nudges out Queen of Denmark on this list. Load's of others I've enjoyed of course, but that was slightly easier than the film one I think. theboyangel
Almost an impossible task so I've tried to piece together the albums I always tend to return to...... not in any particular order 1) Iggy Pop - Lust For Life 2) Beck - Mellow Gold 3) Screaming Trees - Dust 4) Super Furry Animals - Phantom Power (or Radiator!) 5) Calxico - Hot Rail (or Black Light) 6) The Black Crowes - Southern Harmony and Musical Companion 7) The Doors - LA Woman 8) The Divine Comedy - Casanova 9) Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here 10) Richard Harris - MacArthur Park I could probably do a top 10 albums for most genres.... haven't even included the likes of Willie Nelson, Kristofferson, Air, Pearl Jam etc etc etc **edit - can't believe I forgot the likes of Faith No More, The Eels (Electro Shock Blues is still quality!)
