Rob182
My favourite two films for years were always Fight Club and American History X. I can't really think of ten definitive favourites, but The Damned United, LOTR and Star Wars will be in there somewhere. There are too many great films that I've not watched though.
donnie
It's interesting to think about & it occurred to me when I was thinking about my own list, is all. Cinema's 'male gaze' is well documented and I do think people should take a moment to think about the lack of diversity in what they are watching, or reading, or playing on a regular basis. You really beat yourself up about being a white male dont you CED...why dont you become a black trannie then you might finally find peace :-)
chrisp65
hmmm I'm fairly sure we've done this a few times before, my list should be fairly similar to last time King Kong (1933) Vanishing Point Casino Alien A Field In England This is England Fargo No Country For Old Men The Deer Hunter The French Connection I do appreciate that's quite a vanilla and blokey list, but it is what it is.

Mantis
Glad to see so many people have selected Goodfellas. In no particular order: Goodfellas Die Hard Black Hawk Down Tomorrow Never Dies Goldeneye The Great Escape LoTR: Return of the King Saving Private Ryan Godzilla (the 1998 American version - don't hate) Star Wars Episode III I've probably forgotten some though. Bond fan? Definitely - seen them all at least once and quite a few of them many times. If I were to list my top 20 there'd probably be 4/5 Bond films in there. Me too I was arguing with myself over putting a few Bond films in..! I might need to make mine a list of 20 I think
villarule123 Posted October 12, 2014 Author VT Supporter Share Posted October 12, 2014 Interesting to see people have Casino but not Goodfellas. I liked it but I didn't think it came close to Goodfellas which is a classic
chrisp65
I would never claim to be a film buff, I've got Casino, I could just as easily have gone for Goodfellas but didn't think there was room for both. Similarly, I've got Deer Hunter but not Full Metal Jacket and King Kong but not Un Chien Andalou which had a massive massive affect on me when I first saw it. A bit uneducated when it comes to film. Rodders
Un Chien Andalou is the batshit surrealist one with that eye scene isn't it? Only seen the one clip from that courtesy of a recent documentary. Is it good in it's entirety?

markavfc40
Narrowing it down to ten is tough made even tougher having read two and half pages of this thread. I'd go: Godfather Shawshank Redemption Rocky Forest Gump Raging Bull Goodfellas Gladiator Saving Private Ryan One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest Green Mile Just outside would have been Scarface and totally out of place looking at that list but I find it hilarious National Lampoons Vacation. Only seen the one clip from that courtesy of a recent documentary. Is it good in it's entirety? yeah it's the one with the eye, which was bad enough, but it was the piano scene that really did for me I was watching it over my nan's house when I was a nipper, I think she'd presumed a black n white film couldn't be that bad! nightmare over that for years

kidlewis
If you go down the IMDB list of top 250 there's quite a few i'd give 9/10 - 10 for. If we put as much into space exploration as entertainment and spent as much money on it as on country defence budgets, we'd have definitely colonised Mars by now.
