my only worry was the substitutions would rather have seen Grealish for Charles at that particular point in the game and Sanchez sub was not required ?

It worked, we held out. I don't see why you can criticise subs that worked.

Not the sort of scenario you want Grealish coming on for. And Sanchez sub was a little more defensive cover and used up precious time.

All our players played well above the levels if have expected. My Liverpool fan friends were laughing at the prospect of Hutton, Cissokho, Senderos and Baker, but all 4 were brilliant.

Cleverley also looked lively and positive, when though it wasn't the perfect game for him to start on, a lot of defensive responsibility for him but he did it well.

MOTM for me definitely Baker, but anyone for us was in with a nomination. Not pretty, but very effective.

I agree about the subs, but I would say that Richardson was out on his feet and maybe should have come off, other than that, perfect.

I assume all the Liverpool fans who say we should have had senderos sent off realise it would have been 10 v 10 anyway if Lallana had got his second yellow for that pathetic dive

Amusing how Lallana suddenly realised he was already on a yellow and stood up quick.

I think the first booking could have been a red, horrible foul and could really have hurt Cleverley.

Yeah, the first one was really bad. People are talking about Senderos getting a ban for a minor dynical trip that wasn't that hard even though Balotelli rolled around like he was shot in his leg, but this tackle was actually both uncontrolled and actually dangerous. Typical.

Great win but we took GRINDING out a victory to another level. Frist twenty minutes could have been 3 up. Second half we were fortunate that Liverpool were poor. Our defence was solid but our offence was appalling.

Will take that result any day of the season but still think our football hasn't improved much just our players are less prone to mistakes.

Suppose its better to play poor and take points than play well and take none

Utv

Our players being less prone to mistakes is an improvement. And although I'd agree with you that it wasn't exactly vibrant pass-and-move football, this was exactly the way to grind out a result against a team this much stronger. If we play this way vs. Sunderland at home I'll be worried. For this game - no problem at all as far as I'm concerned.

Speaks volumes that he thought the best way to penetrate our defense was to win a dodgy penalty.

Yes, Liverpool had the majority of the ball and were camped in our half - but I thought we were very comfortable in defense and rarely threatened.

Fabulous result and most unexpected from my perspective. I was very impressed with the cohesion shown by the team and their dedication to the cause really paid off. It wasn't sexy, but it was effective.

Full marks to the team for sticking to their task - even with Roncrete out.

Still too early to count chickens etc, but e have relieved an awful lot of early potential pressure on us, which only bodes well.

When the final whistle went, I was a bit like that Walsall toddler doing the ice bucket challenge... 'XXXXXXX Hell...'

OMG....just been to get the papers and the LIverpool supporting newsagent, must have been waiting all night to turn his venom on me....citing us as a rugby team, bit rich....he and a bunch of what can only be assumed as blue noses joining forces, said they hit the post and bar....I said we could have done that but elected to score instead.....on that they escorted me to the door opened it and said we will still be relegated.....bad loser syndrome can affect your judgement.

It has really tickled me pink......UP THE VILLA

I truly despise liverpool fans
