The_Rev
He does realise that every other country at the Euros has individual cities which have larger populations than the entire country of Iceland, right? Davkaus
What was a more embarrassing celebration, Iceland's players celebrating their tiny country getting a decent result against a great team with some of the world's best players in it, or Ronaldo's celebration when scoring the fourth goal in the CL final (from a penalty!) like he'd just single handedly won the match? kurtsimonw
Mourinho and Ronaldo have people wrapped around their little finger. Some just can't help but bite.
penguin
Commentator was saying in the match that in terms of their population there are 50,000 men eligible for the Icelandic team, males aged 20-40, so in pure math being that age in Iceland you have a 1 in 2000 chance of making in the squad. Absolutely incredible they have achieved what they have. I'm assuming there hasn't been a country with a smaller population qualify for a major tournament? Me too, I hate that "they didn't try to win" complaint, disappointed that the opposition didn't deploy the tactics that he wanted them to... idiot. Zatman
one gameweek in and think every game has been competitive enough to say the championship has been watered down by adding teams. performances of teams like Hungary, Albania and Romania have been somewhat encouraging on another note Austria was a team that I had a fancy for but they really shit themselves yesterday and best team won, with their 2 ex-Villa players
Zatman
Ronaldo comments I think might be taken out of context. Roy Keane makes a comment like that it shows he is a winner but when Ronaldo does it he is a whiny prima-donna. somebody on social media even said comments like this mean he will never be world class I think it was a kick up the arse to his teammates than anything against Iceland
rodders0223
I agree with Ronaldo to some extent. Now Iceland did the right thing to get a result but it was horrifying to watch. It wasn't even long ball to a big man half the time. It waa just boot the ball as hard and far as you can at times. Not even Sigthorsson pressed or got out to it. It was awful. kurtsimonw
Nah. I'm as big a Ronnie fan as there is, but he's wrong. Celebrating avoiding defeat, against the seeded team in your group, is potentially huge for Iceland and could help them on their way to the last 16. If they were so defensive, then you shouldn't be conceding against them, especially with a lead. Ronaldo is probably just frustrated he's on a terrible team. Without him, they really aren't much better than a team like Austria IMO.
CarewsEyebrowDesigner
It does seem quite an open tournament, with each team having clear strengths and weaknesses. I'm hoping we have a surprise winner this year (England perhaps )
PaulC
Maybe he's a great footballer, but I have never warmed to him because he just plays for himself and not the team. The comments he made are typical of him really.

The problem is that they are playing possession football but they play two wingers up front, both of whom are better on the counter attack. VillaChris
Ronaldo was poor on the ball last night. He hasn't had a great end to the season tbh.

kurtsimonw
Gotta overreact after one game though. I saw comments about Morata and Nainggolan "Don't really see what the fuss is". I suppose that makes de Bruyne and Alaba Championship players as well.
CarewsEyebrowDesigner
Ronaldo looked a bit tired to me, which is understandable given his age and there not being a huge break between the end of the season and the start of the Euros.
