Qwpzxjor1
I think it's more likely he'll partner Delph in the midfield 2, with Sanchez behind them, and a front 3 still.
DCJonah
The more I think about it the more I like this signing. We're starting to add some quality to the first 11 and squad. He's a big improvement on westwood and makes our midfield stronger.
Dodgyknees
Oh god no. He's not very good and why would we spend 8 million on a player that wouldn't really improve us? If we have that money to spend, spend it elsewhere (Proper CAM/striker/winger) I don't think he is a terrible player. I think he has been played far too deep and hasn't kicked on. Playing for Man United doesn't make you a world beater, not anymore, and even when given the chance Cleverley has looked distinctly average. We will see what happens I guess. Wainy316
I don't think we should make any contact with Man Utd. They might remember we have Vlaar mid conversation and that'll make things awkward.
useless
Would be good if this and Fox's arrival was linked to new owners.
HongKongVillan Posted August 28, 2014 VT Supporter Share Posted August 28, 2014 Pete O'Rourke @SkySportsPeteO 1m Manchester United have accepted a bid from Aston Villa for Tom Cleverley. #mufc #avfc Didn't take Manure long to accept the offer there. Qwpzxjor1
I hope Vlaar isn't included in a deal here. No way, if Vlaar was part of the deal no way would we be paying £8m. They should be paying us and throwing Cleverly in. Might not be a direct deal - but it may be more of an agreement that they'll reject other club's bids and accept ours in return for a separate agreement for Vlaar. I really hope not - but if Villa and Hull made similar bids, why are the reports only saying that Villa's bid accepted? It may be that ours was just higher than Hull's.. but it does concern me. Also - Martinez loves Cleverley remember - with Barkley out for several more weeks I wouldn't be surprised to see Everton join the party.. KjParton
I would definitely not be happy if Vlaar was some kind of side deal off this one..

packoman
I doubt Vlaar is part of the deal. Can't see Lambert selling him after saying the opposite a few days ago.
Popular Post darrenm
People still forgetting the importance of a quality squad. Having similar quality players able to rotate if injuries/suspensions require is a requirement of not stumbling at various points during the season. I'm sure Lambert and Keane know who is available for what price so perhaps Cleverley would be happy to come here on a modest contract to get his career back on track. If the men upstairs can get the numbers to work then an experienced PL and international player can only improve us.

Popular Post Condimentalist
I love it how the armchair accountants have decided there must be be better value players out there !With very rare exceptions you pay the going rate and you get what you pay for. If they get 8m for him it will because more than one club would pay 7m......and if there are cheaper players,of similar quality, how are available, and want to come, then I think it is safe to assume pl would get them instead ! I think people are baulking at the price partly because Lambert has been so good as getting more than what you pay for over the last few summers. Benteke, Vlaar, Westwood have all been exceptional value, Cissokho, Kozak, Okore and Sanchez look very much like they will be too, plus smart frees like Guzan and Senderos (possibly). I really think Lambert's work in the transfer market has been pretty exceptional, especially when he's had some money to spend, so if he thinks Cleverley is worth it I'll back him.

Leicester have just spent 7m on James McArthur from Wigan.. so perhaps not. I think the new TV deal means you can halve any deal done this season as the amount you would have valued him at pre-deal..
