Which IMO makes him pretty useless.

If that is the midfield we'll play next season, yes.

Hopefully it isn't.

I rather keep Gana and let Westy and Sanchez go, but we'll have to wait and see what Di Matteo does

Well had a quick look at some online reports and ratings of the game and can find nothing that suggests Sanchez was 'monstrous' in the slightest. Seemed to be rated average.

I dare say in the right formation he could do a job but if he was any good he wouldn't have spent a career at rubbish teams would he? I can only judge him on his Villa performances and in the main, he has been dogshit.

He's just too limited, there's no sense having players who can seemingly only perform if they are played in their precise position. As soon as we deviate from his ideal formation he goes to utter shit, he's just not flexible enough.

Modern midfielders are just too specialised, it's crazy that nowadays you have central midfielders who can only play in a 3, it's ridiculous.

It's all well and good saying just do one job (I don't even think he's that good at it) but we need players to be better than that in central midfield. Sanchez is not good enough to try and accommodate.

my feeling is that at some point you must draw a line under certain players and just say "this isn't working"

This is an excellent point and I think could be said of many of the players.

I look at our midfielders, Sanchez, Westwood, Gana, Veretout and at a push I could probably put an argument together for all of them as to why they should stay and may come good. However the bottom line is that those players comfortably made up the worst midfield I can remember in my time following us. It offered no protection to the defence, it offered no creativity, it offered no goal threat, it was poor at closing down the opposing sides midfield and had poor ball retention. It was dire.

Gana was possibly the stand out player within it but I wouldn't give him any more than 5/10 based on what he produced overall.

Maybe last season is still too fresh in the memory for me and maybe I am overplaying how tough next season will be but I think if this club is to have any hope of moving forwards quickly then the squad needs a major overhaul and as butteringers said above we have to draw the line under a number of players and say this isn't working and move them on.

I think it is a case of players not being played in their best positions, Guzan, for instance, should be opening the batting for Warwickshire 3rds! ¬_¬

he be a dreadful wicketkeeper

Have you not watched him in a Villa shirt he past 2 years?

Have you not witnessed his headless chicken ball chasing, his constant lapses in concentration, his abysmal discipline tactically, his total lack of awareness, or desire to get back and defend. Playing him in the anchor role, where he drops in to pick up the ball then produce a totally wreckless pass in our final 3rd. If I was going to play the 'rock' it would be as far away from the defence as humanly possible. I would rather see him upfront than be the absolute bomb scare by our defence.

I say this wihout any hyperbole, he has to be one of the most useless, thickest footballers I have ever seen. Just watch him, forget the game and watch him. He is utterly oblivious to any opposition player around him. Just ball watching the whole game in his own world.

If he was 21 I would say it is too late to teach him, at 30 I find it unbelievable he is as bad as he is.

Looking at his CV it is not hard to see why at 29 he was playing at the level he was before we bought him.

Abysmal buy. Abysmal player. Please get rid, he makes me angry just looking at him.

You feel quite strongly about him, then!! :)

Don't get me wrong, although I feel we have not brought out the best in some of our players, there are none of them I would be distraught about losing.

I remember one of his first passes, when he came on as a sub and I thought we have got a right player on our hands hear. I was wrong, would have been nice to have another Colombian fan favourite.

Exactly what happened with me, that Xavi esque pass. I had alot of patience for him and still like him as a person, however he has been absolute tripe! Proper embarrassing.

We tried all combinations, and none of them worked, the conclusion must be clear out and start again. I can only really agree it's worth keeping Gana and Vertout for potential.

Never seen Sanchez play convincingly in our shirt, he always seems stoned or distracted to me.

As a player I hate him. And part of the reason is constantly hearing about how good he is for Columbia. Who cares? He's been nothing short of an embarrassment for most of his time here. Terrible player in this country.

Paradoxically you are right.

Hope he plays a Blinder,  totally dominates the copa America and single handedly wins the final. Anything that puts a couple of mill on his sale price.
