mjmooney Posted July 30, 2014 VT Supporter Share Posted July 30, 2014 Oh, and I Vow to thee, My Country is ANOTHER cracking tune with jingoistic words. Holst was mightily pissed off when they were added without his permission.
Rodders
Jerusalem is a cracking tune, but the words - while a fascinating example of Blake's poetry - are anachronistic religious tosh. Land of Hope and Glory is also a cracking tune, but the words are anachronistic imperialist tosh. As I said upthread, I'd rather we didn't have one at all, but if we must, I'd prefer an instrumental, with no lyrics at all. And deny the press a chance to excoriate sports people for not bellowing out the nonsense lyrics? Bold but doomed I fear. An Explosions in the Sky track would be great though. Just ensure everyone chilled the **** out and got along nicely.

tonyh29
keep it but rework the words to include some French bashing and make all sports people representing the country belt it out , none of this I'm only here for the money looks that we currently get from them

mjmooney Posted July 30, 2014 VT Supporter Share Posted July 30, 2014 keep it but rework the words to include some French bashing Almost there in verse 2 of GStQ: O Lord our God arise, Scatter her enemies, And make them fall: Confound their politics, Frustrate their knavish [or Popish] tricks, On Thee our hopes we fix God save us all The Neil Young version (on "Americana") has the full words. I think the last ONS had it at just over 33 million classifying themselves christian, UK population is 64 million so strictly speaking it does reflect the majority but probably only for the next 18 months or so (on the presumption all those east european immigrants are atheists and muslims)
