tonyh29
The idea that ambitions are only for young people, and it's all too late for the past-it wrinklies is a bit patronising. I've said that I personally am not bothered about doing all these "exciting" things - but that's more to do with my personality than my age. The whole bucket list thing seems to be very much the obsession of many "retirement age" folks - they suddenly have the time, they probably have the cash, their kids are grown - and they're off whitewater rafting, hang gliding and buying Harleys, the stuff they've "always wanted to do". Like I say, not me - but less of the ageism fellers! Interesting about ambition and age. My parents drilled into me the importance of owning property, so at the tender age of 22 I took out my first mortgage and got on the first rung of the ladder. This wisdom I have tried to impart to my 22 year old, who has now opted to leave the nest and rent. When I questioned this he put his arm around me and said "Why do I need to buy a property dad, when I am going to inherit one from you?" How could I argue with that?! My main objection is to the implications of the term 'bucket list' as set out by the film. But the thought of oldies spending the money they earned on themselves, rather than leaving it to their mercenary children, brings me much joy. the phrase bucket list was first used on the interweb in 2004 ...the film came out in 2007 so your objection is overruled and now you can happily make a list I agree with your second point though , I'm hoping when my folks die that I get a will that says something along the lines of , "Sorry we've left you bugger all but we spent it all .. and had great fun doing it , love Mum and Dad "
8pints
I'd like to set foot on every continent, that's another one. One of the advantages of being tall is I can do two at a time. I'm actually doing it right now as I type this.

mikeyp102
Me and the wife have just jotted down our bucket lists. It was actually really fun and we had a laugh doing it. We only live once right? (ex bhuddists not inc.) Is there stuff you want to do while you're in good health, stuff you probably won't do, but like the thought of? Here's mine (so you can laugh at it! ) 1. Scuba dive in the Great Barrier Reef 2. Do a skydive 3. Take a plane flying lesson 4. Drive route 66 5. Drive around Europe 6. Visit Machu Picchu 7. Visit Taj Mahal 8. See the Pyramids 9. Walk along the Great Wall of China 10. Visit the Christ the Redeemer (Rio de Janerio) 11. Run a marathon 12. Go to Easter Island 13. Climb Kilamanjaro (doing this in 4 years) 14. Do the 3 Peaks Challenge in 24 hours (next year) 15. Go to Monaco 16. Go to the Amazon River 17. Try my hand at stocks and shares 18. Own a Rolex 19. Visit Red Square & Kremlin in Moscow 20. Learn Italian (already not too bad) 21. Visit places around Italy 22. BBQ 5kg of Pork - I just think it looks cool when they do it on TV 23. See the Northern Lights 24. Learn to Snowboard (This June! ) 25. Write a Sitcom 26. Try and travel for free - see how far I can get 27. Go somewhere off the beaten track - Tony, help me out! 28. Go on a cruise 29. Go on the Jurassic Park ride in Florida (a dream since I was a kid) 30. Go to Montana and do a fossil dig 31. Go to Japan and visit Kyumiso-dera temples 32. Visit Tokyo 33. Go to Auschwitz Now do yours. Of your list I have done: 2 - A fantastic experience would love to do it again, it gives you such a buzz (especially when free falling). 3 - I was lucky enough to be part of the Air Cadets when young and so did this a few times. Again it is great. 8 - Went to the ones at Cairo and too be honest was really underwhelmed by the experience. It is really really commercial and smells of urine within the tombs. I've heard the ones further south (Luxor maybe? are better). 9 - This is good, even found a place (Mutianyu) where you get a tobaggan down. 14 - Hard work, but a good feeling upon completion. 15 - Didn't go for the GP, but it is still a nice place. Looked round the casino and just imagined spending a fortune there. For mine I would like to do: 1 - Bungee Jump - I don't fancy one on a car park crane though would like a big one off a bridge, unfortunately the only place in the UK is Sunderland and I don't fancy going there. 2 - Dive in Great Barrier Reef 3 - Visit Ayres Rock, Sydney Harbour, Bondi Beach 4 - Do a Survival expedition - Similar to that new Bear Grylls programme The Island 5 - Drive a F1 car 6 - Be a passeneger in a fighter jet 7 - Trek Machu Pichu 8 - Go on the ride on top of the hotel on Las Vegas Strip 9 - Helicopter over Grand Canyon 10 - See Everest 11 - Visit New Zealand 12 - Visit Fiji 13 - Get married 14 - Have children I'm sure there are many more but can't think at this moment. mjmooney Posted May 13, 2014 VT Supporter Share Posted May 13, 2014 I don't mind heights per se, but I've never seen the appeal of the adrenaline rush, particularly involving speed, centripetal force, etc. It's just extremely unpleasant!
lapal_fan
I've been on the rides at the top of the tower in Las Vegas. The one that shoots you up vertically is fine. The one which dangles you over the ledge (like the ride has broken) is quite terrifing.
