tinker Posted December 5, 2019 VT Supporter Share Posted December 5, 2019 Thompson's deal with Unite's issues but the cost to look through a contract would be high. TUPE regs deal with contract transfers in the UK , Google it there quite straightforward

A'Villan
Some of you may remember that I study youth work and work at a mental health clinic. Next year I have elected to do further study instead of go into full-time work, and will commence a bachelor's degree. Undecided if it will be youth work or psychology, but I think youth work is my calling for the time being. Not to mention I have been selected to represent my current university in basketball for a new league of Australia's best uni's. This would give me scope for a scholarship, but only for youth work, psychology I would need to transfer to a different uni who haven't made such offers.
dubbs
Started my new job in October and it's been a disaster! The guy I replaced had been at the company 30 years, and I had 1 week with him to learn everything. Then went over to Germany for some training and I swear they weren't expecting me - complete shit show. And there's a real clash of personalities with the boss. There are only 5 of us in the UK office, me and 4 women. Nobody in the office knows anything close to enough about everything we do. It's dead quite and has been since I started. God I wish I could go back to my last job.

I've called my old boss but don't think there's anything there at the moment. Going to start throwing my cv out again but I'm a little concerned about moving jobs so soon after starting. I'm 44 and really need to settle into the right job.
Davkaus
I've done a bit of hiring at my place, and imo leaving after a very short period because it isn't a good fit isn't too much of a problem as long as it isn't a pattern. 1
HalfTimePost
Same, if someone had been at Job A for years but moved to JobB and hated it and wanted to move on, you wouldn't think twice about it really. Just get across in any interview that you were loyal to the other place And was just bad luck, rather than making it a blame game about the manager at the new job and it'll be fine. Really don't think anyone really thinks twice about people Mid 40s moving jobs anymore do they? Wouldn't have that as a serious concern at all

I don't think it will matter to a future employer as long as you explain it well (if that's what you're worried about) Nothing wrong with saying you were offered a job, had a good interview, they sold the company to you really well, but when you arrived it wasn't what you had been promised and you weren't happy. As long as it's not because you were sacked I don't think another employer would (should!) care. You can even spin it as a positive (I didn't have as much responsibility as was promised, the work wasn't challenging, they were overstaffed so there wasn't enough work etc)
Davkaus
For the first time in a while I chucked a new CV up on a few job search sites and I ended up getting about 40 calls yesterday, it's fair to say there are a few tech jobs about! There was one which seemed like a fantastic fit, bit of a stretch but it's got the opportunity to develop some skills I want to work on next, good location, great salary and benefits...But it's for a payday loan company. Nope. Life must be so much more convenient if you don't have a sense of shame.
Rob182
It’s new CV time. Do people recommend a CV is only 1-page nowadays? I’ve seen this mentioned in a few places. Mine is currently two, but I could strip a few things down if 1-page is the way to go.

But in my role now, I’ve been part of recruitment teams and people look up the CV in detail. what I’ve seen works well, would be a small paragraph about yourself, then list most recent role, give some details of the role that you do and the keep attributes. Then list previous employment history, mainly just place, job title and dates worked. After that list education history (again just dates, of degree level maybe grade). Then personal interests. Have a look online, there are some apps and websites that can help cvs and give professional advice free of charge
Rob182
Cheers @mikeyp102, I had a little look earlier and saw some decent looking 1-page CVs, many of them had most of the large split into two columns, to fit it all in. One template had a black and white photo of the person in the top right hand corner.. I feel embarrassed to even say I’m considering that My work (Barclays) is moving most of its Birmingham operation to Glasgow in June, and conveniently Deutsche Bank are creating upto 200 jobs in Birmingham in the same field, so they’re coming to our office next week to meet people individually.
Seat68
Mine is 2. Paragraph on me at the top followed by relevant experience and associated skills and then ends with professional qualifications. The experience details gets smaller chronologically. Seat68
I used to work at Butlins in the 90s and a CV come in to the entertainments department, really well put together CV, really good experience, funny, really took time crafting a hilarious eye catching CV. It was with a hint of respect as we dropped it in the bin calling the person an utter word removed. Never try to go funny on a CV.

I’d think for a job like that it shows creativity and that the person is a natural entertainer!

Avoid hiring unlucky people, always throw half of the CV's in the bin without looking at them. 3

I've always gone for two sides of A4 You don't need more than that, and people would get bored if you include more.
