Valyrian steel I would guess. Which would make it interesting as there are various Valyrian Steel swords knocking around. It's made from Valyrian Steel. Valyria being the city in Essos which was taken by "the doom" and the place where Tyrion and Ser Friendzone were attacked by the stone men a couple of episodes back. I think the city of Valyria is a Game of Thrones version of Atlantis, a mythical place which was miles ahead of everybody else on a technological level which just got wiped out by a natural disaster. The city still stands but it's uninhabitable, the stone men (people with full on greyscale) are sent there making it a glorified leper colony these days. As for the steel, there is more about it in the books but there has been plenty of lore in the show too, it's just that it's been a long time since anything was specifically explained. The steel is forged using methods which were lost in the doom of Valyria so no new steel has been made in several centuries and blades are exceedingly rare. I think there are a few more in the books but in the show the only blades that we know about are: Ice - the huge sword Ned Stark had in the first season, he lost it when he was arrested in Kings Landing and was executed with it, it's since been melted down and reforged into: Widow's Wail - given to Joff at his wedding, he cut the book Tyrion gave him in half with the book. It's since been passed on to King Tommen. Oathkeeper - given to Jamie at Joff's wedding. He has since passed it on to Brienne of Tarth to aid in her quest to walk around the north aimlessly for two years. Longclaw - the sword of House Mormont. Owned by Joer Mormont ("the old bear") who was lord commander of The Night's Watch and brother to Ser Friendzone, he gave the sword to Jon Snow after Jon saved him from a zombie not long after joining the watch. There was a subplot about them changing the pommel from a bear (the sigil of house Mormont) to a wolf (the sigil of house Stark). This is the sword Jon Snow killed the white walker with. Those are the only Valyrian steel swords we have seen on screen so far. The knife which was used in an attempt to assassinate Bran Stark in season one was said to be Valyrian steel too. That was the incident which caused Catlyn to arrest Tyrion. And there are other swords in the world. A few are mentioned in the books which are yet to appear in the show. A lot of lords of great houses have one, I'm pretty sure it's been mentioned that Sam's dad is head of a powerful house in the south (House Tarly) and his dad has a Valyrian Steel sword. 9 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Same chap we saw changing one of Craster's sons into an Other and who at the end eyeballs Jon Snow and raises the dead. In a Storm of Swords, as Bran is going throught the Wall he tells a tale about how the Night King was a man of the Nights Watch who happened to be named Brandon Stark: ergo Starks are the baddies of the piece. The Night King was the 13th commander of the Watch at the time the Wall was built, so you're lookig at there being 7000 years of difference!
