Arsenal are ready to pay Aston Villa £12million for Ron Vlaar tonight.

- Daily Mirror

Same story as this morning. Already been rubbished by Vlaar's agent. Club already said he's going nowhere. Could happen.

Morgan Amalfitano arrives in London
According to our colleagues at RMC, Morgan Amalfitano has arrived in London and wants to join West Ham for free. The only issue is that he has yet to come to a mutual termination agreement with Marseille. The clock is ticking.

So is Canales going to happen or not, haven't seen the last few pages. It would be a proper transfer coup for us that. How come he dosen't have his own thread like Cleverley given we bid for both of them?

No..it was either total bollox ..or the club trying to look active in the market....his release clause is £20m FFs....which gives some idea of how ridiculous this was

We would av had more chance of signing bastard elvis FFs canales my arse

I honestly don't know what this means.

Bastard Elvis was an Elvis impersonator on the Vegas circuit back in the day. His shtick was that he was a bit of a bastard. He played to small casinos well away from the main strip, but brought in enough money to keep him and the casinos happy. Unfortunately he got in a little trouble with the law after exiting a house of ill repute one morning and driving into a small fountain. They found an amount of cocaine on his person and he went to prison for a little while. In prison he found that he could keep himself relatively rape free by performing his Bastard Elvis act for the inmates on the first Sunday of every month, but also by playing for the prison soccer team, in his full Elvis get-up of course. He was a tidy little player and one of the inmates knew Harry Redknapp and suggested that he might be one to watch, even though he was at this point in his mid 30s. Harry came over to watch him, and also to take in a Celine Dion show, and was impressed by both. Once he he was released from prison Harry tried to sign him, but because of his criminal record they couldn't get a passport for him, never mind a work permit. Now it's a pretty common expression when a team try to sign someone that they have no genuine chance of actually signing, you'd say, 'we would av had more chance of signing bastard Elvis'

Best post in the thread by such a long way

Have you not considered the possibility that the deal was on but simply broke down due to wages demands?

Every player in Spain has a release contract in Spain, how difficult is this to understand?

Very rarely, in fact, never do they ever go for the release clause. It is a mandatory stipulation in the contract, so they are set to a riduclous 6 or 7 times the fee just paid.

I believe we were interested in him, and made an offer. Canales was not interested in leaving Spain though.

..but if by all means people want to think it was a smokescreen, PR stunt or whatever, go for it.

Fair enough! I did raise my eyebrows when apparently our bid was something like 4m, seemed ridiculously low.

Guess he's this year's Clint Dempsey.

Ah the 'great' Diame off to the big club his apparent talents deserves... oh wait he just signed for Hull...

Watch Hull live again this season and you will see he would have improved us.

Very good player when fit.

When fit?

He played 75 games in two seasons for WHU,so clearly was fit. Never done anything for me.
