Valentines Day

Whats romantic about being forced to be romantic at the whim of card manufacturers?

Generally men think of Valentines Day as a chore, generally women are the ones who get the hump if its forgotten or they aren't satisfied with the outcome of the day.

Totally bogus day

Ahh, the traditional response of someone who wants a reason to not have to do it. "I know! Let's get mad at the commercialism of it." or "Why do I need to be told when to do it" or "I do it at other times of the year" - which is the most ironic, because the people who say that are the ones that never do.

Why not join it with it? Guess what, you might enjoy it.

No, its the truth. My partner of 20 years agrees. We've never once ever bothered

Shit. Now you've passed off your opinion as truth, I'm stumped...

Romance is about spontaneity. Being romantic to order simply isn't romantic, it cannot be

Don't be ridiculous.

So when a couple who lead very busy lives plan to spend a date night once a fortnight together, that's automatically not romantic because it's not 'spontaneous'?

have to agree with Bicks, me and mine have agreed we don't buy anything Valentine's Day themed

anyway, I just remembered a lovely piece of prose that I think Rob might first have posted in the jokes thread:

roses are red,

violets are blue,

I've got a knife,

now get in the van

The date isn't romantic in itself, the actions contained therein might be, they would however have some degree of spontaneity to them.

Why would a Valentines Day date therefore be any different, as it is just as 'planned' but then also potentially 'spontaneous'?

Romance can happen on any day of the year, all I'm saying is that I'm happy to participate in a day that is also dedicated to it.

Just like Mother's day isn't the only day that I show my mum how much I care about her. But by the same token, I'm still totally up for getting involved in the day and appreciating her.

I've bought the wife some roses for £5 from Tesco because I thought I probably should.

I was genuinely shocked when I gave them to her and her face lit up. I don't understand any of this stuff.

Spose I'd better write the card in a minute that has some passage I didn't write or recognise, but still put my name to it.

I once managed to hypnotise a girlfriend into thinking my fella was a delicious lollipop. Like really. I could actually do it, not like Kenny Craig

what's really impressive is that he had you convinced he was a 20 year old woman

My dad told me this one.

Roses are red,

Violets are blue,

I've got Alzheimers,

Cheese on toast.
