AVFC-Prideofbrum
No problem with either. Most people chose a team before they are even into middle school. You can't have a go at people because of what team they support. If the people you know who support say United are dicks about their team, like pretend to stop caring if they have a bad season, only to jump on bandwagon once start winning again then freely criticise. I know plenty of United fans, I guess I'm not from Brum but the question is still the same really. You can't blame a kid for chosen their favourite players or team that does well. A lot of the United fans I know well basically, their Dads aren't huge on football or only watch it casually without properly supporting a club like say we do. Which when it comes to it, is the most important thing when choosing a team. If you're a kid and your family/Dad doesn't take you to the football, then all you have is the T.V, you're what 4-8 years old usually when first start liking a team, you see Ryan Giggs, David Beckham etc...doing great things, winning football matches for Man United then of course as a kid you're going to look at them as your favourite players and therefore Man United favourite team. By the time people actually get to make an informed decision on choosing a club based on things such as location, it's mainly too late. They've been watching their particular team (usually a good one) for a number of years and have grown a strong affiliation with them. I do know one person who 2 years ago started supporting West Brom instead of Man United but it's rare. Maybe I'm wrong but I doubt most people on here could really pick out the moment they decided to support Aston Villa, to me it just happened naturally through my Dad being a huge fan and taking me to games. Some aren't that lucky, they only have the TV. To ridicule their choice as a child is laughable.
coda
Brummie reds all day. In a perfect world you would get a map of where you were born (if English) and locate the nearest football club and support them.

thetrees
Interesting to see the old red cards, and two posters with over 65000 posts between them who are no longer with us....... ......or are they? I miss my political disagreements with Ian-all my favourite VTers are socialists!I'll have an argument with you if you like. Do you want the 15 minute one, or the full half-hour? Disagreements, not arguments. Funny, I never had you down as a socialist :winkold:

EastEndVillan
I think that the most irritating thing about plastic fans (glory hunters) is that supporting a successful team is easy, and they never have to endure the bad times, when supporting a particularly (local) club really tries your very being e.g. this season with the Villa. It is this sense of having all the trappings of supporting a successful team without the earning of those accolades by suffering endless years of mediocrity or heartache. These days, as I get older, my feelings towards the plastic fans have softened; presume that more to do with me feeling a bit ‘meh’ to the modern game. Where it still does get my heckles up is with England in a major tournament, and the “soccer Doris” as I like to call them. You know the types, the pubs are full, and some woman, who’s probably never seen more than 10 mins of football before in her life, banging on about Lampard should of done this, or Barry’s sh1te. You know the types! I just think where we you when England we losing 2 nil at home to Uzbekistan, and the football was so turgid, it made watching the current Villa team look like watch Arsenal in full flow, you’ve not earned the right to complain. Just makes me want to scream and possibly resort to violence, but I probably just tut into my pint!
chappy
Growing up in Sheffield I was often labelled a 'glory hunter' for being a Villa fan. It's not nice when you're 8 years old and you know your team is shit!
jonno_2004
Definitely 'Brummie Reds'. Simply because they go for the easy ride. If you choose a team with no local/family connection due to the fact they win most of their games you rightly open yourself up to as much slating as possible from a true fan who goes through the good and bad with their team. I hate Man City for the fact they have the money they do but I can't begrudge the fans who have stuck with them through thick and thin. Plastic bastards who have the cheek to criticise me for supporting Villa on the other hand, well they can **** right off. Go and watch Coronation Street, after all that's so-called 'easy viewing' too. I'll stick to something a bit more challenging. Tossers.
