Aston Villa and West Bromwich Albion are set to make a move for Reading’s leading scorer, Adam Le Fondre.

The Royals’ striker, who has hit the net 10 times this season, could be in line for a surprise switch to one of the Birmingham clubs, as both seek to bolster their firepower without breaking the bank.
It’s understood that Villa and Albion have tracking Le Fondre’s form for several weeks and are prepared to bid as much as £3 million to secure the signature of a hitman with a proven Premier League pedigree.
“He’s one of several prospects we’re monitoring at the moment,” confirmed one of Villa boss, Paul Lambert’s backroom staff to SportsDirect News. “He’s got a track record of scoring goals at the highest level – and we need to boost our ability to score goals.
“Playing in the Championship means Le Fondre wouldn’t command a massive fee, so it could be a real win-win for us.
“The final decision lies with the gaffer (Lambert), but as far as I know our interest is very serious.”
A spokesman for Albion said he wasn’t prepared “to talk about transfer speculation”.
But a senior figure at the Hawthorns did confirm that Le Fondre is on the club’s radar.
“Le Fondre is well known to us as an impact player,” he said. “Now we’ve sold Shane Long to Hull, we’ve got some cash to spend on a couple of players – one of them most definitely upfront.”
Last season, when Reading were relegated from England’s top division, Le Fondre earned a big name for himself netting 12 goals in 36 appearances.
In recent weeks, Le Fondre – who hasn't always seen eye-to-eye with Reading boss, Nigel Adkins – has admitted he would seriously consider a move away from the Madjeski Stadium during the January transfer window.
If the two Midlands clubs get their way, that ambition could soon become reality.
