Ryan Bertrand

Great signing. I'd like to see a back 4 of Lowton, Vlaar, Clark and Bertrand, with Bacuna infront of Lowton and rotating with him. That's not a bad defence there.

It's still terrible. Just not quite as bad as the one we have now. If we signed another CB (or if Okore was back) and an RB then we *might* have a decent defence. Clark and Lowton are both poor and Bertrans is an unknown.

Definitely a decent signing especially if we can make it permanent.

Does kind of beg the question of what we are going to do with all the LB's we actually own. Bearing in mind Bennett is just back from injury it is a bit of slap in the face to him. But frankly one he probably deserves.

Hopefully they are on low enough wages we should be able to shift them a bit more easily than some of the other shit we've bought in the last few years (looking at you Alan Hutton)

Good things about Betrand is he is a decent LM too which means we have the option to play 4-4-2 without playing Tonev or Weimann.

This must be the first time a player has signed before we even had a speculation thread about him. And IIRC, I was the first to mention him here today in the speculation thread. :D

Pelle is ITK. new MysteryMan

Yep, and coming in next is Ronaldo, Messi or Ribery. We can only afford one (Lerner is a tight bastard) and they're all fighting about who it'll be as they all want to join us. :D

Anyway, welcome to Villa, mr. Bertrand! :)

We have an extra midfield and defensive option. Don't forget, Bertrand made his Chelsea debut against Bayern in the CL in midfield. He's no stranger to pressure games and won't freak out like a rabbit in headlights. He can get forward and cross also, attributes we've been lacking down the wing.

Some really positive quotes from Ryan about the club:

Bertrand said: "It's a fantastic opportunity for me to come here. Aston Villa is a fantastic club with a massive fanbase and a great history. To get this chance to come here and play some games will be a really good step for me.

"Whenever I've played for Chelsea here at Villa Park the fans have been fantastic and have always created a great atmosphere. The pitch, too, has always been great, including when we played in the Community Shield here against Manchester City, and I'm looking forward to playing on it more regularly until the end of the season.

"I've had to adjust many times in my career having played under several managers, so I know I can settle in here quickly and I'm looking forward to being able to contribute to the team.

"I'm focussed on continuing to progress and helping the team here to do that, too. We have a lot of young, talented players here with some experienced heads as well, they want to express themselves and I hope I can add to that and add my experience in a productive way.

"This is a really traditional English club, a family club as well and you get the feeling that everyone really knows one another, so that side's not been lost either.

"Knowing some of the lads here, too, such as Fabian Delph, Marc Albrighton and a few others will really help, too, and I couldn't be more looking forward to playing my part here."

I don't think he'll get in the Chelsea squad, think they'll be prepared to sell.  My worry is he does really well for us and someone else nabs him.

This

After Kyle Walker i promised myself that i wouldn't get excited about another loan signing again

Hopefully part of the deal is that we get first option on him in the summer

Only just seen this.. Interesting shows PL had no faith in 2 of his signings.. Never really thought that much of Betrand but I suppose must be better than Luna and Bennett. Surprising to go for him though when I thought other positions more important

Happy with this one, actually an improvement on the first 11 rather than another squad player. Keep them coming Lambert.

This is what excites me, a player who comes in and improves the first team. Just hope we can make it permanent!
