Game over

Newcastle can complain all they want and they have a right because the goal should have stood

But they got about 4 major decisions in their favour against Stoke which were ridiculous.

So to sum up I'm picturing a park with some roundabouts and swings on it.

both, the rules identify interfering with play (touching the ball) and interfering with an opponent (blocking their view or movement towards to the ball)

that is what the ref has given IMO

Nobody had their movement toward the ball blocked though.  Joe Hart's behaviour isn't impacted by any other player.  He just watches the ball fly in.

If you're not interfering with play then you shouldn't be on the pitch. ;-P

I hate the whole interfering with play rule, if you're standing in the penalty area then you're interfering with play, because defenders are thinking about where you are, you're influencing them and therefore the game. It's a stupid rule with such a big grey area things like that are always going to happen occasionally.

yes but before they introduced that rule there were so many offside goals. It was introduced to favour the attacking players and as such its a good things. There are grey areas but that's what the ref is there for!

Also, Joe Hart looks to see where Gouffran is standing before he dives, so he impacted on his ability to judge the flight of the ball.

This!

not saying its definitely the case and im saying that hart wouldnt have saved that regardless but its a perfectly justifiable decision if the ref saw that as gouffran preventing Hart from diving towards the ball, he's hit that at 70mph+ at a guess, he's got a split second to make that decision

the problem is the same as always, he wont come out and tell us what he saw
