The death of french football?

I disagree with the Paris comment, went there in the summer and there were people in PSG shirts absolutely everywhere and kids playing football in the streets..... I think the takeover has brought the popularity within Paris back.

PSG took just three fans to Ajaccio today.  Three.  Now I know it's a long way (Ajaccio is on the island of Corsica and the only practical way to get there is to fly, but it does have it's own airport and direct flights to/from Paris) but three away fans for a league game?  Could you ever envisage a situation where a Premier League team, even Fulham, would take as few as that?

French Football on the rise? Monaco doing really well, Lyon still in Europa League, not to mention Nice and OM. New investment and new owners throughout the league. No doubt the league will lose some quality players in the summer but new owners/investment means they can probably replace them adequately. Interesting times. The league needed something like this otherwise it was in danger of becoming SPL.

I remember arguing with a bunch of people a couple of years back who claimed Italian football and the Serie A was "dead" .

Later that season Inter won the Champions League and a few years later Italy reached the final in the Euro's.

France still has a very good youth system that produces quality players every season.

The league has the same issue as any league where only a few clubs has any money, and with the silly money in English football they struggle to keep hold of their talents.

Loving what Monaco and Jardim is doing this season. They are the most entertaining and exiting team in Europe this season.

tbf to them all of the big boys despite all of the money being spent still seem to have 2/3 youngsters in and around the team, PSG always seem to have a couple of home grown kids in their squad

they seemingly have another great crop coming through, think the euros may have been 2 years too early for them but for the next 10 years they could be looking at -

GK - lloris, areola

DF - varane, umtiti, kurzawa, digne, sidibie, kimpembe, lucas, laporte (needs a big move) mendy

MF - pogba, kante, rabiot, bakayoko, tolisso, lemar, thauvin, kondogbia

ST - dembele (x2) greizmann, mbappe, fekir, coman, martial, lacazette

they should do something

Is there another major world football nation that produces as many talented under 25 players as France is currently.

The list V4E has above is ridiculous really....France could dominate like they did from 1998 if they sort out mentality issues and stop calling up Gignac.

As for the league...hopefully Monaco will win it, they deserve to given what they've produced in the league and Europe.

The problem will be they'll be decimated after the summer as imagine most of their stars will go so a transitional season, same for Lyon with Lacazette going.

Marseille should get up challenging soon but next year might be too early so probably a cakewalk for PSG next season again.

With regards to the opening of the thread...was the tax restriction implemented and how has it gone down.

The French league was never really about attempting to lure some of the major players in the world though bar obviously PSG, Monaco and Marseille in the early 90s when they signed Papin and Chris Waddle.

Most French clubs seriously invest in their youth academy, actually play them and also sign a lot of young African players to develop due to the similarity in language, culture etc.

And then clubs like us in summer 2015 pitch up and keep them going for a couple more years.

Well one of the big changes was when Monaco was forced to begin paying French taxes instead of Monégasque ones for their players (or pay £50m/ season in fines). Meaning that they could no longer afford to buy Falcao's, Rodriguez's or Moutinho's. Especially since their owner went through one of the costliest divorces of all time (5 billion dollars :D, that was later reduced to a paltry 500m dollars)

They total change in direction they've made in just a few seasons is amazing. From Galactico's to developing and finding talents in just a couple of seasons is

Couldn't agree more, they have the best crop of up-and-coming talent in the world. Theo Hernandez (Atleti LB on loan at Alaves) and Malang Sarr (Nice) are huge prospects too. I watch a fair bit of youth football and Ousmane Dembele and Kylian Mbappé are the 2 biggest talents I have seen come through since Messi, so for both of them to be French, and surrounded by the talent above, is a frightening prospect.

Nice winning would be the greatest thing ever - unfortunately not going to happen, though.

They've done very well but fallen away a bit...champions league football would still be a great season for them.

Don't understand why prem clubs don't target Luciene Favre, overachieved in Germany and France now. Great manager.

Yeah, agreed.  Plus the Balotelli factor :D

I guess Prem clubs may well have targeted Favre but thought he hadn't done enough in the game (yet)?

France always have good young talent but its what the players do about it. On paper their young players from 10 years ago would have been similarly highly rated. Benzema, Ben Arfa, Nasri, Clichy, Sagna, Gourcuff, Diarra, Mavuba

and that generation were a massive failure, granted Domenech was an idiot but some of them massively underachieved in their careers and all had a chance at big clubs
