turnbull
IF, he won't put any more cash in and IF he really isn't interested then he should sell up, simple as that. I don't think Lambert is entirely blameless though, we should still at least be trying to play football even if the squad is el cheapo.

Popular Post villa-revolution
No. We could get lucky an be bought by a billionaire a la Man City and Chelsea, and while I'm sure we'd all enjoy the ride for a while, ultimately it's that sort of massive money that ruins the competitiveness of football and I don't want Villa to be a part of that problem. More likely we'd get bought by some joker like Carson Yeung, Vincent Tan the Venkys or Assem Allam If Villa fans think we'd be better off with any of those, they really have lost the plot and all grasp of reality. The alternative would be some sort of fan buyout, which would be attractive and a definite point of pride for us fans. But I don't think we'd see any more money being invested in the club as it would have to be run sustainably so at best I think we'd see matters on the pitch stay the same, or very likely get worse as the reality of running a financially sustainable Premier League club hits home. I think Lerner has learnt from his mistakes in the past, and has made good investments in terms of the training ground and club infrastructure which are helping us in the longer term. He may have lost some of his enthusiasm but I still see the club as in far better shape than in the last years of Ellis and he isn't sucking out money in the way he did. Guess work, no factual evidence for this at all. Yet we have factual evidence that Lerner has been a bad 'custodian'. Yes it's guess work, and I fail to see where I claimed it was a fact? But realistically the perception of Villa is an average sized club in an unattractive city. For every billionaire owner investing huge money there are several awful ones dragging the life from their clubs. It's a guess but I think it's a fair guess. This does not mean we will get another Venkeys or Tan, no evidence to that at all. Although Lerner did pick McLeish as a great choice for manager so I can see why you might doubt his judgement which has cast us into this mess. No it doesn't mean we'll get that. And my post said as much by also talking about a fan buyout or a Man City / Chelsea style billionaire coming in. It's what I see as most likely based on looking at who has bought clubs who are perceived nationally and internationally to have similar status to ourselves. I don't think it can be denied that should Randy sell it would at least be a possibility? As for Randy's choice, I don't think they'll be a big queue of buyers lining up should he decide to sell that he'll need to select from. We don't need a Man City or Chelsea buy out. We need somebody who can bring football people in to make the choices, who can back the manager whenever he needs it, who won't have a strangled grip on finances to the point where the "b-team" are sub-standard and equal to the bottom of the championship or top of league one. I - and others, I think - do not expect to win the league, we do not expect to be the biggest club in the world - but we also expect, that after being told we are reducing debt and wages, that the manager might have been given more choice as to who he can bring in, so when we are linked with the creative attacking players for 7/8m or the holding midfielder, the chairman might actually see that Lambert has met all targets and back him. We have been crying out for QUALITY additions to help us - three players are needed - and these have been needed for around 18 months. The chairman has given 40m to build a squad, plus a wage budget Wigan would be proud of and we are expected (because of the clubs size) to finish at least top 10 - when in reality we are actually just looking to survive. Top 10 wasn't good enough under Doug, now surviving is good enough under the PR machine that is Randy, I bet Doug wishes he had done things Randy's way. Free scarf anybody? I'll proudly take Randy's free scarf every single time thank you very much. In all the time Doug Ellis was at Villa Park he never once so much as offered anybody a free glass of water. My message to supporters visiting this thread is to be careful what you wish for & be cognizant & respectful of what you actually have.

VillaChris
Liverpool owners were getting some stick somewhile back, remember King Kenny and all the overpriced british players he signed, sounds familiar? For me it's a yes. Be honest no-one expected this 6 years down the line when Lerner took over. I don't expect a title challenge nor even top 4, just a team to be proud of who can play good football, have a couple of players who can get you off your seat and be in around top 6 again, knowing we are a threat again. Basically I want 2007-10 again, when we mattered in the premier league and people were talking about us and giving us respect. I just don't want to have to achieve that spending a ridiculous amount on british players. Cant see that happening a long time under this new austerity regime, we just don't have the quality all over the pitch.
pacbuddies
Randy Lerner has outstayed his welcome for well over 3 years. This post would have been better being posted the day the fool appointed McLeish.
NurembergVillan Posted December 22, 2013 Moderator Share Posted December 22, 2013 How are they doing now? Of the last 9 games they have won 1 so I'd say not too good. We'd better hope Lerner doesn't sell up then, in case we start losing.

Tayls
I don't see why Lerner or Faulkner bring in Martin Laursen to help out with the defensive play. We need these sorts of people at the club. Surely Lambert could work with him.
smetrov
You can't have an owner who's got bored of the club - that just filters through. - and Hairy Hands is correct that we have a 20k pw wage cap - thats just a joke...

In any case the buck for the playing side stops with the manager - he can't delegate someone else to be responsible\accountable for the defence. I hope he stays and we just grow steadily over the next 3 transfer windows with Lambert. I find it hard to believe we would find a suitable owner to replace him. Phumfeinz
I want a filthy rich billionaire owner. I want him to pump ludicrous amounts of money into Aston Villa Football Club. I want us to the next Man City. I want people to accuse me of being a claret & blue plastic .

useless
It seems like we've been waiting like a century to get players from the wage bill so we might start spending again, but by the time we are rid of them there may be other players who will need shifting, and it will keep going in circles. I feel maybe if Lambert was in a position where he could spend an average of say 5 million on every position he could do a good job and have us challenging as a best of the rest type club but I think if your going to be that kind of club you need to at least do it playing entertaining football as a sort of compensation for the lack of trophies to the fans. Anything beyond that I think Randy would need to sell, but I'm sure I read somewhere that he's the something like the 400th richest man in the world so you'd be relying on it just so happening that one of those 399 people would be interested, if not one of those individuals then a group. Be nice if Randy mapped out his strategy to us all or told us that if someone was in a better position to takeover the reigns he'd step aside. I love the way people think potential owners are lining up to spank millions on us to keep us happy. Why on earth would they? With the exception of a couple of Sheiks and Oligarchs, people don't buy clubs unless they feel they can get a return on them. Randy thought he could pump a few million into playing staff to bring about a champions league level income stream. That income stream would eventually pay him back for the intial investment It didn't work and cost him dearly. He's now (rightly) trying to do it slowly by buidling year on year at a sustainable pace. Doubt anyone else would be prepared to take another risk on us.
