I share your pain …. I went to a quiz where the quizmaster claimed Bryan Ferry wrote jealous guy …. I’m still contemplating legal action over the point our team was deprived of  :)

I had one where the QM claimed The Da Vinci Code was written by Dan Smith.

I don’t know how “professional” the quiz guy and the teams are by you, but it’s definitely a bit more slip shod by me.

I must have mentioned it previously but a quiz I was in once in one of my local pubs had the question “Who played the villain in ‘For a few dollars more’?”

Now I was the only one on my team who had seen the film, that one rested squarely on my shoulders, and I was thinking out loud “Well, Eastwood is in it, Lee Van Cleef is in it but he was the bad guy in ‘The good, the bad and the ugly’...what was the name of the other fella?”

I spent the rest of the quiz unfocused, trying to remember that it was Gian Maria Volente who played the murdering rapist bad guy...only for the quiz host to later go through the answers and claim that the Lee Van Cleef character (who was avenging his dear departed daughter) was indeed the true villain of the piece.

It’s been about ten years and I’m still unhappy about it.

I've murdered for less.

25 - pretty damn happy with that! Although you might need to amend question 3 response (right actual answer, wrong letter ;))

I love pub quiz drama.  So utterly, utterly cliché but the last one our team got to before lockdown, the special round (selected by the previous week's worst scoring team) was Star Trek and, yes, like the pedantic bell-end I am I felt compelled to correct the quiz-master's erroneous answer at one point.  We did win that one by quite some distance.

And no, I've never thrown a kettle over a pub.

Well, it looks like you'll never see another one. Got this email from our quizmaster:

:(

Well that is a bit sh*t. How many money was the quiz bringing the pub with extra people? Seems very short sighted and a shame. Surely they could find another pub to do it in?

It's very shit. I've just emailed the quizmaster suggesting going elsewhere, but the existing pub was his local, in walking distance, so he may not want to go farther afield. And it might be quite difficult to establish that sort of quiz from scratch in a new place. The old one had developed its own loyal clientele over a number of years, we all knew each other, and we liked the style of quiz. But the new tenants, even before the pandemic, were already changing the style of the place. I think that they concluded that the smart money was in food, and a younger clientele who would probably drink (and spend) more than the old Monday regulars. I can understand it, they've been through the whole lockdown drought, and they need to make some hard-nosed business decisions - and if that means changing their demographic to the exclusion of us lot, so be it. But it's the end of an era, alright.

There’s obviously a demand to go out dining on a Monday night I take it? Obviously I don’t know the pub, but I find that a bit surprising. I would estimate that 90% of the pub quizzes I’ve taken part in have been on a Thursday night, which is a more obvious night to go out socialising.

I’d have thought Monday night would be quiet and a quiz would guarantee at least regular custom.

That was definitely the original idea when the quiz started, but they obviously think they know better. The incentive for us to go there every week has certainly gone.

I don’t blame you.

Typically (before lockdown) how many would be taking part in the quiz and how many diners/customers might there have been that might have felt hurried out to avoid the quiz?

Quiz regulars varied between 20 and 40. Very few diners. Bear in mind that the quiz was supposed to be at 9.30, but hardly ever started before 10.00, by which time the diners had gone anyway. You got the occasional 'passing trade' (often younger people), who would decide to have a go at the quiz - and often found it baffling, so they may have decided to avoid Mondays in future. But, yeah, I'm not convinced that they're going to make any increased profit on Mondays, once the post-covid enthusiasm dies down.

Indeed. Our current thinking is "**** 'em" - we'll drink elsewhere on principle. I've already posted to that effect on their FB page.
