We only wanted people there that really mattered, I can’t be doing with 100 people that I haven’t seen for years turning up. There’s usually a reason you haven’t seen them! It was an amazing experience getting married there, loads of fun which is what it should be. Back on topic, it’s usually 35-40°C in The Gambia, dry and sunny. Two days before we got married, the locals told us a heat wave was coming. It’s hard to comprehend what they deem a heatwave, when it’s already 40! Anyway it was over 50 for nearly three days, the sky changed from blue to a weird yellow and it was like being blasted with a hairdryer. Never felt anything like it.

I remember working in a Hangar in the outback one January , sat under an aircraft with a volt-meter, monitoring something or other. It was like being in an upturned tin can and 48 degrees or so, and eventually I needed to cool down, so decided to go outside for some air. Walking out into the desert, it was like going from an conventional oven into a fan oven. There was a strong wind, as well as baking sun that instantly made it way hotter than inside. And there was the same kind of thing with the sky - it was kind of pinky-yellow, maybe from the dust. it stayed in the 40s for about 3 weeks and then the mother of all thunderstorms came and brought relief for a few days. Could do with some of that heat now, tbh.

It's Your Round
Same here, walked to the shop in warm sunshine, walked back in freezing wind and sideways snow. Very strange.

Genie
Can’t see the point of a summer house. Weather is nice, shall we sit in a shed at the bottom of the garden? No, I want to enjoy the nice weather. Weather is a bit shit, shall we sit in a shed at the bottom of the garden? No, I’ll just stay in the house. I know a couple of people who have had them put in only to use them as storage (shed). Edited April 11, 2021 by Genie

No Weather is a bit shit, shall we sit in a shed at the bottom of the garden? No I know a couple of people who have had them put in only to use them as storage (shed). The garden is levelled and the base is down (some highways grade slabs I acquired). The Summerhouse is now pretty much all painted inside and out and pre drilled but not assembled. So pics will be on their way either next weekend or more likely the weekend after. Next weekend we are going to the big city for a change of walking venue. ——- The point of the S.H., is that it extends the number of rooms we have and makes ‘half way up the garden’ a spot we can use rather than just the empty bit between house and patio, and the garage and greenhouse. It extends the number of days you can sit outside, it’ll be in a spot that catches the sun and it’ll be warmer than sitting outside. No need for more shed space, we have a garage we’ve got three cars in at a squeeze in the past. Working from home in the summer, with nippers back from Uni, it’ll be an option for any one of us to be away from the others for work or for playing music or just to be not crowding each other.

sidcow Posted May 18, 2021 VT Supporter Share Posted May 18, 2021 (edited) When I came home about half an hour ago, the sky over the house was as dark and moody as you can imagine. I'm not sure I've ever seen such black clouds, yet not a drop of rain. Now those clouds have completely disappeared and the clouds above don't look particularly angry and yet it is absolutely torrential rain out there and massive hail stones. Go figure.
