villaguy
I always have a scientific nagging brain inside my head, I'm always wondering what is time, why does gravity exist and so on. These questions frustrate me, yet a lot of people say why are you bothered? I think it must be a dull life to just accept things without trying to understand why

villaguy
I'm big on science. Googling stuff can explain how things happen, but never why. It's a big mystery
villaajax
I'm sure everyone understands the porn thing, what percentage of internet traffic is porn? I remember reading in some newspaper about this city worker who spent 11 hours everyday on porn streams! whilst supposedly at work! A guy who used to work at the same company as me was sacked for watching porn whilst at work. He was on a work Visa as well Is this one of those "a guy I know" stories? Hey, I work in IT, we had our suspicions when we noticed he cleared his history before each time we had to do something with it.

Jimzk5
Strange practices - every night my neighbour gets back from work, opens the gates to her drive, reverses on, goes inside the house. exactly 30 minutes later she gets back in the car and puts it in the garage behind the houses. Same routine everyday.
StigVillan
You know what she's doing it those 30 minutes don't you? Having a poo.
Jimzk5
Why not just stick the car in the garage and be done with it, she clearly has some sort of ocd.

mjmooney Posted October 16, 2013 VT Supporter Share Posted October 16, 2013 (edited) I always have a scientific nagging brain inside my head, I'm always wondering what is time, why does gravity exist and so on. These questions frustrate me, yet a lot of people say why are you bothered? I think it must be a dull life to just accept things without trying to understand why I agree. It amazes me how little interest most people seem to have in... well anything beyond sport, TV, booze and sex, really. As for your "why, rather than how" question, you need philosophy for that. But not religion, stay away from that shit. Strange practices? This is kind of a re-run of the old OCD thread. I have loads of them, all to do with patterns, sequences and symmetry. Nothing that adversely affects normal life (like obessive handwashing, etc.), but still somehow...important. e.g. - randomly - one that someone else on here mentioned, and I absolutely agree with - digital volume levels on radios, TVs, etc. MUST be set to even numbers, never odd ones. And (my favourite), shoes must be stored with the left and right in the correct positions. Seeing the opposite is something I find intolerable, and I HAVE to correct them.
