  1. You qualify for this thread if you've listened to more than half the album in question, you own an genuine physical specimen (or legitimate download) and aren't in your car. If you can be arsed? - A pic and a snippet you deem proper. To kick off...

    New Music 2019

Bit late! 2 and a half months in to 2019. Modern piece in an olden style, to match the Marx Brothers theme.
  3. not seen a thread purely for people to say what gigs concerts or festivals they are going to, Iif people start using it then it could help others spot something they may have missed or would be interested in going to. any way just got my tickets come through for bob dylan next wednesday at the NIA cant wait now man im buzzing i know he is an old man but he is a proper legend and one of my musical hero's so it should be great
  4. I could swear we already had one of these, but a quick search yields no results. Anywho, having only just realised that kingysilver's band had an EP out last year (that I totally forgot to look into until yesterday ) and having already been enjoying juanpabloangel18's musical endeavours for some time, I'm keen to have a listen to some more output from our VT brethren. So I invite the creatively-inclined amongst you to hawk thyselves in this very thread. All abilities/styles welcome, even if it's something as basic as recreating the works of The Wurzels through jug-blowing (I'm looking at you, Farmer Eames).
  5. OK, this may die on its feet, or end up being just me, Xann and theunderstudy (same thing, I suppose). But this is the place for "classical" (in its widest sense) music discussion - what you like, what you hate, recommendations, questions, general chat. Me? Currently grooving on that Stravinsky box set I mentioned in the "cheer you up" thread. Anybody else listening to this stuff?
  6. Me Mom n Dad have just moved house and my old man has decided that it's time to let go of his old vinyl collection. I've got a mate who is really interested in some of the stuff but can anyone give any ideas as to how to get them properly valued? Off the top of my head he has Beatles, sabbath, zeppelin, queen, bowie, T-Rex, deep purple, Rory gallagher, pink Floyd Alex Harvey, Alice Cooper, ELP, all that sort of shit, absolutely loads of them. They are all in different states of use so some are like new and others are pretty well partied on. Any ideas?
  7. basically people its a thread for original songs covered by other artists. they may be brilliant or shit but post them on here.
  8. Anyone tried it (invite only at the moment, and no I haven't got any to give yet)? It's effin brilliant. Thousands and more thousands of songs and artists right at your fingertips. Excellent audio quality and for those of you who know me, it takes a bit to get my approval. It's a streaming service but buffering doesn't exist. Feck knows how they do it. The only thing missing is a client for a mobile so you can listen on the go and not only at your computer. It's free with about one ad an hour as far as I can tell. Completely ad free cost you about a tenner a month but you can listen 24/7 either way. I sound like a sales drone but this is exactly what I want from an online music service. And yes, It works on a mac! :winkold: Edit: Forgot the link http://www.spotify.com/
  9. Just loved all of their songs and wondered if anyone had gone to see them in concert due to the rumoured reunion?
  10. Where's the junglist and the dubsters at on VT? Gimme a holla, I know you're out there somewhere, what's your preference? I love downtempo, electronic, dub, reggae, uk hiphop, jungle, anything the NME aren't keen on, looking for some more reggae to discover at the mo, I've rinsed the Jah Cure album to death now.
  11. What it says on the tin. Your favourite albums of the year Rules: Albums must be released this year There is no limit on how many you can post, doesn't have to be Top 10, no order required

    New Music 2018

    Subjex - 'Cryptofunk' Good fun
  13. Your mission is simple - Pack that dance floor. The promoter couldn't give a toss what age or genre your selections come from - He just wants to see some rumps being shook. Poor choices will be rewarded with the offending media being destroyed, and the offending DJ having their ears cleaned out by a bogwash administered by brutal and clumsy bouncers. To kick off...

    Playlists

As much as I still buy a lot of music in physical format, mainly vinyl, I do find subscribing to streaming service useful. I use Spotify, mainly for being out and about and in the car. A long time ago we used to have this big collaborative VT playlist which people added to but that was a bit messy and a lot of skipping was required. I do however like creating playlists (must be my inner DJ coming out). It's also fairly easy to share playlists, so why not have a topic where you can share your playlists. You'll obviously have to say which streaming service the playlist is for, it will also have to be made public. Give a brief description of what the playlist is and provide a link
  15. Ok, bit of fun... You are going to live on a remote island for a year for some reason. Let's say for an experiment in isolation. No internet or contact with the outside world. There is power, and running water and regular food/provisions delivered so you won't starve or start smelling like a dead badger. However, entertainment is hard to come by. So to combat boredom, you can take the following to keep you sane... 3x albums 3x books 3x films 1x tv boxset 1x extra entertainment object (could be a guitar, or a mountain bike, or a football, or a surfboard). Basically, something to pass the time. So, what would be on your list?
  16. 1. Bar 2. Nightclub 3. Outdoor 4. Arena 5. Stadium
  17. I'll start you off with a few examples. Band Aid - "There won't be snow in Africa this Christmas time." There's are several mountains in Africa that are snow capped in December. Such as....... Toto - "Kilimanjaro rising like Mount Olympus above the Serengeti." Not unless it's moved. Julie Andrews - "A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down". Dangerous advice to diabetics. Oasis - "Slowly walking down the hall, faster than a cannonball." Cannonballs are rarely noted for their slow velocity. Does anyone want to offer any more?
  18. I'll start: The Abyssinians AC/DC Adrian Sherwood Afro-Cuban All Stars Air Al Green Albita Ali Farka Toure Alicia Keys Althea and Donna Alton Ellis Alva Noto Amy Winehouse And The Kids Andy Stott Aquarius The Arcs Aretha Franklin Art Blakey Art Tatum Augustus Pablo
  19. Its coming to that time of year when I start reviewing the best of the present years Music and begin to compile a disc of tunes for my mates. Mac DeMarco - This Old Dog 11. Grizzly Bear - Painted Ruins 12. Slowdive - Slowdive
