  1. Won their 5th game on the bounce today and they apparently had our team exactly right hours before kick off, possibly much sooner. Added in with the Cardiff stuff, something very fishy is going on down their IMO. Pulis may be doing a great job at the minute, but with the recent allegations, I do find myself wondering if their sudden upturn in form is anything to do with said allegations.
  2. Depends who the owners are. I get a feeling we're going to see the headline "Leeds Utd in shock Mourinho Approach" before too long. Quickly followed by "Mourinho Snubs Leeds" of course.
  3. Seeing as we have a fair few Villa fan's on here with Devon connections and an interest in Argyle it felt fitting to start a thread. Especially if as we have a few loan players there (Azaz and Kesler). Ex-Villa youth like Tyriek Wright and had a few players play for both clubs over the year's (Hourihane etc). Hopefully they have a great year and someday soon get promotion to the top flight for the first time. They're away at the Scum today so hopefully pick up a decent result.
  4. Looks like some near local derbies next season as they almost back in Premiership, if results go their way possibly even by 5pm Had some good games with them! the 4-4 at Villa Park when we was 4-1 up with 9 minutes left in mid 90's springs to mind! The French scout for them or whoever spotted them has struck gold with Anthony Knockaert (around 1mil) and one very good footballer and Riyad Mahrez (cost £400k in January and been an absolute steal, he is possibly as good or if not better than Knockaert) Those 2 will be their key to survival in premiership..
  5. How does every one think they will do? They have signed a shed load of players and they have just spent 30m on a player from France. Their owner is really backing then isnt he? Or gambling? If this goes tits up and they go down they will be in the financial trouble.
  6. Sadly, another EFL club that is being run into the ground. 16 points deducted in the last few seasons is alarming. Placed in another embargo as well.
  7. I get the benefits but I'm very much against it, even when it's us that are potentially benefiting from it. Man C are the obvious big baddies here (as in most things) with their City group but there are many others. Red Bull has their model with clubs in Germany, Austria, the US, Brazil and so on. Saudi Arabia has Newcastle and the 4 clubs in their league. Bill Foley's Bournemouth are paired with Lorient in France. John Textor of Crystal Palace has ownership in Lyon, Belgian RWD Molenbeek and Brazilian Botafogo Giampaolo Pozzo has Watford & Udinese Pacific Media Group has GKS Tychy , Barnsley , KV Oostende, Den Bosch, Nancy, Esbjerg and part ownership in Kaiserslauten. Chelsea & Strasbourg + whatever link there is between Boehly and the Saudis American 777 Partners owns Genoa, Standard Liege, Vasco da Gama, French Red Star FC, has stakes in Hertha Berlin and Sevilla and is trying to buy Everton And there are tons of other examples including us. Since this is a topic discussed in multiple topics I thought we might start one for it. Thoughts?
  8. What does everyone on here think of Walsall? I have a lot of respect for them for number of years and like the way they purchase smart young bosmans amongst journeymen and bringing through very talented youngsters.. and sell many on (Young bosmans or youth team prospects) for big money (Michael Ricketts, Danny Fox, Anthony Gerrard, Scott Dann and Matty Fyatt) Dean Smith plays really good football and just won 5-1 away to Notts County..and currently in play off's Pity the chairman Jeff Bonser is very much like Deadly Doug and rarely gives them a penny to purchase, think James Constable was only cash signing in last 10 years. Would love to see more of a partnership between ourselves and Walsall sending our youngsters on loan there, Milan Lalkovic on loan from Chelsea has been good for them this season
  9. Apologies if there is a Derby thread already...i cant seem to find it if there is! Amazing whats going on with them, they have 9 senior players on the books, 2 of those are GKs, and Rooney has just gone and injured one of his outfield players himself, they will be out for 3 months (Jason Knight). I cant see how they wont be relegation candidates......what a mess, amazing to think they were a win away from the Prem only 2 years ago.
  10. Deserving of its own thread I think. Disaster waiting to happen or master stroke? They say he has motivation skills, maybe he does on impressionable players but established premier league players? Will they react well to his special brand of management? The circus currently surrounding him could actually deflect a bit of pressure away from his team as well and may help them. I actually hope the appointment backfires spectacularly , not least because it helps us but also because I think he is a totally objectionable character with repugnant views. I also think he deserves payback for his comments against us after we did his team in the cup earlier this season so I hope we hammer them at VP. His appointment could go either way , hence my question at the start. Here's hoping it fails miserably
  11. There's a Championship thread and a non-league thread (and maybe a League 1 thread too, can't remember now) but there's something that's been massively missing... er... from our lives? ... A League Two thread on Villa Talk! (Well, the other day I trawled through pages 1 to 7 of Other Football threads but couldn't find one. Anyway, now there is one!) I follow League Two a lot because my 2nd favourite team's Wimbledon, I grew up going to watch them now and then at the original Plough Lane. This included the early days of that Crazy Gang (how lucky I was to witness their incredibly beautiful and skillful Brazilian-like tiki-taka football). I suppose some of you also have a League Two team that you follow and that you're fond of, maybe Walsall.
  12. Looks like both teams are very close to going out of business. Desperately sad for the fans and the loyal staff who work there as well as the players. Bolton were founder members of the football league. Bury are 134 years old. With so much money in football nowadays at the top, its awful to see teams like this scratch around for money to survive. Goes to show, most clubs are a bad owner away from oblivion - just look at us last summer!
  13. Promoted to the premier league so thought I'd start a thread on them. How do people think they'll do? Last two appearences they've been rock bottom. Will Troy Deeney score goals as regularly as Ings and Austin? I do think they'll be competitive as I know their transfer model isn't to everyone's taste but they've already been signing decent players from Udinese and Granada for the championship so you'd imagine the lure of PL football will get an even better selection. Think I'll get a season ticket down there if Di Natale puts off retirement and pops up there for a season , one of my favourite modern players.
  14. I'm predicting Chelsea. Lukaku gives them the edge. Unless City signs Kane...but they haven't yet.
  15. I felt happy to see the Harriers in the third-round FA draw yesterday. I’m a fairly uninformed admirer from afar. I was watching them a little more closely a few years ago, when they seemed to have got right on the verge of League Two, but it seemed like a kind of high watermark, and I hadn’t heard much about them since. All the little burgs around that area fascinate me, and I love how there’s a club in almost every little population center. I drove through there a few years ago to see my granddad’s grave in Rock, and I remember passing through Kidderminster. The FA Cup competition may be for me the greatest national competition on earth. I feel jealous of you Brits. I wish we had more tournaments structured in this way in the States, where small clubs, at least in theory, could go all the way to the top.
  16. Slip to another defeat. What the hell is going on there?
  17. Looks like there is a possibility that they will face expulsion from the EFL because of a lack of funds by the group that owns them. https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/charlton-risk-expulsion-football-league-efl-demand-details-takeover-a4510536.html
  18. Solihull Moor's have just signed striker Adam Rooney from Salford for undisclosed Fee and rumoured £4k a week.
  19. So it turns out that horrific Huddersfield kit with the sash was fake. It was all part of a campaign to get rid of shirt sponsors once and for all. Here it is, modelled by our good friend Tommy Elphick: Fair play to them. They've pulled a blinder there.
  20. What a start to the season for them so far, Gary Monk has settled into the role really well indeed. Shocking to think he is 35.. If he keeps this up he is going to be some coach! Anyone else impressed with them so far?
  21. Just realised they have 5 points less than we did at this point in our relegation season. Hopefully we can go from the 3rd worse Premier League side of all time to the 4th. May be worth noting that we only got 1 more point from the final 12 games though. Ugh.
  22. Such Sad news Club statement
  23. Unsurprisingly there was no Palace thread, such nonentities are they. I thought it was worth starting one following the unveiling of the plans for the new Selhurst Park. I actually quite like it, even if the video here contains some grandiose nonsense - including talk of it being the best atmosphere in the league...
  24. Big news Leicester City owner's helicopters has crashed. Dreadful news
  25. http://www.espnfc.us/english-premier-league/story/2958841/crystal-palace-chairman-premier-league-2-could-be-option Interesting debate to be had about this topic
