  1. Here we go! It is that happy time of the year again... no, not Christmas, forget that, thats done and dusted. The real highlight of December is here. Time to select your celebrities who you think will shuffle off their mortal coil during 2024. My glamorous assistant @bickster will be tallying up the final 2023 scores in due course, so we can announce the champion Who needs Carol Vorderman?! Terms and conditions apply. Here comes the small print: You all know the rules... same as before... You get five names. Five. If you list more than five names then any names from six onwards won't count. 100 points for a dead celebrity. 200 points if that celebrity is below 40 years of age on the day they die. The number of points is divided equally between every person who guesses correctly. If you are the only person to name somebody who dies then you get the full hundred. If five people guess, it's twenty points each. Decimal scores will be rounded up, ie, if three people guess then they get 34 points each, not 33.333 We will be generous with the deadline. Entries are valid up until 23:59 January 6th 2024. Editing your post after that time will invalidate your entry into the game. If your pick was made before 2024 and they die in 2023, you have until the entry deadline to nominate your substitute People who die before you post, do not score for you. Let's go, you morbid bunch of reprobates!
  2. Free Radio reporting that he has died. Terrible news if so. A true Villa legend. Sorry if this is in the wrong forum
  3. Just saw this. Great man, great player. Former Northern Ireland, Southampton and Aston Villa defender Chris Nicholl has passed away. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/68395058
  4. Here we go... Never mind the debate on the perfect full English breakfast, or what constitutes 'normal' weather patterns, let us move onto the more important matter of guessing which celebrities will snuff it in 2023. Terms and conditions apply. Here comes the small print: You all know the rules... same as before... You get five names. Five. If you list more than five names then any names from six onwards won't count. 100 points for a dead celebrity. 200 points if that celebrity is below 40 years of age on the day they die. Let's be having your predictions!
  5. The first player I ever remember as a nipper. Came to see us at our primary school mid 70s. Appearances made will never be beaten. RIP HEITS
  6. Whats everybody's thoughts on him new Assistant Manger?Seems a good move to me.Welcome Ray.
  7. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/62989801 Rest in peace. What a legend and a gentleman.
  8. Really sad to read the news that Trevor Francis has died. Wonderful footballer, greatest player Blues ever had. RIP
  9. Sad news https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/64687384
  10. As per @bickster's nudge... We go again! Take yourself away from the Virus thread where people are talking about depressing things like lockdowns, boosters and damaged economies, and cheer yourself by predicting the demise of celebrities. You all know the rules... same as before... You get five names. Five. If you list more than five names then any names from six onwards won't count. 100 points for a dead celebrity. 200 points if that celebrity is below 40 years of age on the day they die. 11. This deserves its own thread. So sad to just read the news. Wonderful football, great left foot and was very disappointed when we sold him. Thoughts of with his family and loved ones.
  12. Not another one!! https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/6292982/jlloyd-samuel-dead-aged-37-aston-villa-bolton-car-crash/
  13. Really sad to hear about the passing of our former assistant manager, Roy MacLaren. He was a regular fixture throughout those glory years, serving both Ron Saunders and Tony Barton. He had one of those faces that you never forgot and seemed such an important presence in that dug- out. Rest well Roy, I'm sure Ron and Tony will be there to greet you.

    Phil Bennett

I'm not a Rugby fan but sad too hear of the death of Welsh Legend Phil Bennett. Those old enough will remember he started off possibly the greatest try ever scored for the Barbarians against the all blacks.
  15. Passed today according to Twitter and Burnley Andy Lochhead in the air. RIP big man
  16. One of Englands finest strikers with an amazing goal scoring record at Chelsea and Spurs has died. Never took himself too seriously! Its fitting that Chelsea play spurs today.
  17. Apparent heart attack. Report here. Sorry for short link. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/39660196 Former England and Aston Villa defender Ugo Ehiogu is in hospital after collapsing at Tottenham's training centre on Thursday. The 44-year-old, who is Spurs' Under-23s coach, received medical treatment on site being transferred to hospital by ambulance, the Premier League club confirmed. "Everyone at the club sends their best wishes to Ugo and his family," Tottenham added in a statement. Ehiogu has been at Spurs since 2014. He made over 200 appearances for Aston Villa between 1991 and 2000 before spending seven years at Middlesbrough. Ehiogu, who was capped four times by England, also played for West Brom, Leeds, Rangers and Sheffield United before retiring in 2009.
  18. Saw this in the Halesowen News. Appears to be a very sad and lonely end for one of our former players. RIP Will

    Tommy Docherty

Former Villa boss Tommy Docherty died today following a long illness, aged 92. The Doc managed us from 1968 – 1970 and for me did a lot to get the fans flooding back to Villa Park and to raise the profile of our great club, at a time when we were at a very, very low ebb. RIP Tommy – HEITS.
  22. being reported by a few on twitter, passed away during the night aged 73
  23. So sad, great player, was there in 83 when he scored after 1 min.
  24. Sad to hear that we have lost another World Cup winner this afternoon. Norbert “Nobby” Stiles has passed away today (aged 78) following a long battle with illness. Nobby suffered a minor stroke in 2010, and was later diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and prostate cancer. Nobby was a vital cog in both the England and Manchester United teams that lifted the World Cup in 1966 and the European Cup in 1968. Nobby was a real hard man, who was able to mark (sometimes literally) an opponent out of a game. He did so notably well when marking Eusebio in the World Cup semi-final. He will always be fondly remembered for his joyous victory jig after the 66 Final. Sir Alf now has 7 of “the boys of 66” up there with him. My thoughts are with his family. RIP Nobby!

    Ron Wylie

Sadly, Ron Wylie passed away yesterday, at the age of 86 following a long illness. Ron was an inside forward who made 244 appearances for us between 1958 and 1965, scoring 27 goals. He joined us from Notts County for £9,000 and played 38 league games during season 1959-60, when we were promoted back to Division 1 at the first attempt as champions. One of his 5 goals that season, was scored in our 11-1 home win against Charlton. He went on to score 10 goals the following season and played in both our 1961 and 1963 League Cup finals. Ron then joined Birmingham City, for whom he made 150 appearances before hanging up his boots in 1970. He then went on to coach at Villa Park, before joining Coventry City as coach in 1975 and then from 1978 as their assistant manager until 1981. He then coached briefly abroad, before being appointed manager of WBA in 1982. He left them in 1984 and returned to Villa Park where he filled several roles, including that of reserve team coach, assistant manager, caretaker manager, scout and community liaison officer, until his retirement in 2002. My thoughts are with his family – HEITS!
