  1. Me Mom n Dad have just moved house and my old man has decided that it's time to let go of his old vinyl collection. I've got a mate who is really interested in some of the stuff but can anyone give any ideas as to how to get them properly valued? Off the top of my head he has Beatles, sabbath, zeppelin, queen, bowie, T-Rex, deep purple, Rory gallagher, pink Floyd Alex Harvey, Alice Cooper, ELP, all that sort of shit, absolutely loads of them. They are all in different states of use so some are like new and others are pretty well partied on. Any ideas?

Bit late! 2 and a half months in to 2019. Modern piece in an olden style, to match the Marx Brothers theme.
  3. What it says on the tin. Your favourite albums of the year Rules: Albums must be released this year There is no limit on how many you can post, doesn't have to be Top 10, no order required
  4. I'll start you off with a few examples. Band Aid - "There won't be snow in Africa this Christmas time." There's are several mountains in Africa that are snow capped in December. Such as....... Toto - "Kilimanjaro rising like Mount Olympus above the Serengeti." Not unless it's moved. Julie Andrews - "A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down". Dangerous advice to diabetics. Oasis - "Slowly walking down the hall, faster than a cannonball." Cannonballs are rarely noted for their slow velocity. Does anyone want to offer any more?

    Playlists

As much as I still buy a lot of music in physical format, mainly vinyl, I do find subscribing to streaming service useful. I use Spotify, mainly for being out and about and in the car. A long time ago we used to have this big collaborative VT playlist which people added to but that was a bit messy and a lot of skipping was required. I do however like creating playlists (must be my inner DJ coming out). It's also fairly easy to share playlists, so why not have a topic where you can share your playlists. You'll obviously have to say which streaming service the playlist is for, it will also have to be made public. Give a brief description of what the playlist is and provide a link
  10. You have 5 categories: 1. Lead Vocalist 2. Rhythm Guitar 3. Lead Guitar 4. Bass 5. Drums Name your optimum all time band, and you must consider how they would sound if they actually played together. Pick from any music genre.
  11. Ok, bit of fun... You are going to live on a remote island for a year for some reason. Let's say for an experiment in isolation. No internet or contact with the outside world. There is power, and running water and regular food/provisions delivered so you won't starve or start smelling like a dead badger. However, entertainment is hard to come by. So to combat boredom, you can take the following to keep you sane... 3x albums 3x books 3x films 1x tv boxset 1x extra entertainment object (could be a guitar, or a mountain bike, or a football, or a surfboard). Basically, something to pass the time. So, what would be on your list?
  12. I don't recall having a thread like this before but I'm daily plagued by the most annoying songs getting stuck in my head so I thought it might be helpful for us to share what we're currently humming in the hopes that someone else's song is less annoying and might replace it. (Alternatively of course, you might end up with a really skull-crushingly annoying song planted in your head as a result of this thread but them's the breaks.) This morning - for no apparent reason, I have this on repeat on my noggin':
  13. Righty ho, as it's now December and the year is drawing to a close I thought it was time for the annual album list. 80s Party!

Inspired by the 80s music challenge thing that's going about Facebook at the moment, let's have an 80s party! Post your favourite 80s tunes, and let's dance! Only one rule, songs must have been originally released between 01/01/1980 & 31/12/1989. Other than that, have at it! Lets kick things off...
  17. BBC1 @ 8pm this Saturday LIVE from the Ericsson Globe in Stockholm, Sweden. The semi finals were held Tuesday and Thursday night, with the running order draw made early this morning. It is as follows; Belgium Czech Republic The Netherlands Azerbaijan Hungary Italy Israel Bulgaria Sweden Germany France Poland Australia Cyprus Serbia Lithuania Croatia Russia Spain Latvia Ukraine Malta Georgia Austria United Kingdom Armenia Ukraine are being tipped for success with their politically tinged track 1944 sung by Jamala, herself from Crimea. They didn't take part last year due to financial reasons and the on going conflict in Ukraine. The song concerns itself with deportation of the Crimean Tatars in the '40s by Stalin, and the chorus is sung in the Crimean Tatar language. It was accussed of being policitally loaded, which would have made it ineligible for the competition, but the EBU have confirmed it can take part as there is no 'political speech' in the lyrics. Instead, the song is inspired by stories that Jamala was told by her Grandmother, basically. What allegory is intentional is for the viewer to decide...
  18. their latest is pretty decent too Blandy Tried this last night. Very cool, found myself drifting off to sleep (compliment btw) listening to it.
  19. basically people its a thread for original songs covered by other artists. they may be brilliant or shit but post them on here.
  20. We're nearly at the end of the year, now. As we normally do a "what have been your favourite albums" thread, it seemed rude not to make this one. Reluctant as I am to spout off on the internet (cough), here's a few that pop in to my head. I think it's been a better year than last, though I've perhaps bought less new music (and more older stuff that I've discovered or re-discovered). In no particular order then, here's my 10. a. The Lucid Dream - The Lucid dream Post rock from Carlisle I think. Nicely builds. b. The Fall - Sub-Lingual Tablet. This is a good, good album. c. Floating Points - Elaenia Instrumental d. Low - Ones and Sixes Hip Hop producer. Slowcore band. Strange mix that works. e. Torres - Sprinter Canadian, I think f. OOFJ - Acute Feast Scandi -Electronica g. Ólafur Arnalds & Nils Frahm - Collaborative Works. Chill. h. Sexwitch - Sexwitch Mental but in a good way i. Deerhunter - Fading Frontier j. Courtney Barnett - Sometimes I Sit and Think, And Sometimes I Just Sit She's just great with lyrics.
  21. link I'll start with Bob Dylan's "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue"... Actual lyric: "Take what you have gathered from coincidence" I thought it was: "Take what you have gathered from cold wind so dense"
  22. What are you listening to with the windows rolled down and volume turned up?
  23. I'm not ashamed to say I like Dire Straits, although I know that admission opens me up to heaps of ridicule, especially amongst Brits. That said, I heard "Sultans of Swing" on the radio today, and I almost wanted to drive my car into a utility pole. That would make my list, possibly. What songs make you homicidal/suicidal?
  24. Over half way through January and no one has started a new music topic yet, shame on you! My new years resolution as such was to buy at least one vinyl album a week, it needn't be a new release it could even be second hand but I would hope a lot of it is new. So far I've bought three albums but only one new release which is... The Advisory Circle - From Out Here Clips available here
