  1. What it says on the tin. Your favourite albums of the year Rules: Albums must be released this year There is no limit on how many you can post, doesn't have to be Top 10, no order required

    New Music 2018

    Subjex - 'Cryptofunk' Good fun
  3. Your mission is simple - Pack that dance floor. The promoter couldn't give a toss what age or genre your selections come from - He just wants to see some rumps being shook. Poor choices will be rewarded with the offending media being destroyed, and the offending DJ having their ears cleaned out by a bogwash administered by brutal and clumsy bouncers. To kick off...

    Playlists

As much as I still buy a lot of music in physical format, mainly vinyl, I do find subscribing to streaming service useful. I use Spotify, mainly for being out and about and in the car. A long time ago we used to have this big collaborative VT playlist which people added to but that was a bit messy and a lot of skipping was required. I do however like creating playlists (must be my inner DJ coming out). It's also fairly easy to share playlists, so why not have a topic where you can share your playlists. You'll obviously have to say which streaming service the playlist is for, it will also have to be made public. Give a brief description of what the playlist is and provide a link

Oasis - "Slowly walking down the hall, faster than a cannonball." Cannonballs are rarely noted for their slow velocity. Does anyone want to offer any more?

  8. Its coming to that time of year when I start reviewing the best of the present years Music and begin to compile a disc of tunes for my mates. 11. What would everybody say is the best decade for Music? Personally I favour 80s music, but I would say the 90s (excluding Boyzone and such) was a very good decade with bands such as Oasis and Blur making it special. the choice is yours ladies.
  12. link I'll start with Bob Dylan's "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue"... Actual lyric: "Take what you have gathered from coincidence" I thought it was: "Take what you have gathered from cold wind so dense"
  13. I don't recall having a thread like this before but I'm daily plagued by the most annoying songs getting stuck in my head so I thought it might be helpful for us to share what we're currently humming in the hopes that someone else's song is less annoying and might replace it. (Alternatively of course, you might end up with a really skull-crushingly annoying song planted in your head as a result of this thread but them's the breaks.) This morning - for no apparent reason, I have this on repeat on my noggin':
  14. Righty ho, as it's now December and the year is drawing to a close I thought it was time for the annual album list. 15. We have a top 10 films and artists thread, so I thought it'd be interesting to list our top 10 albums(or however many you can manage; it's bloody difficult). I think that it's quite interesting how our top albums might be from different artists to those in our top 10. In a random order: Aja - Steely Dan Close to the Edge - Yes Thriller or Off the Wall - Michael Jackson Morning View - Incubus Lateralus - Tool Deloused in the Comatorium - The Mars Volta The Nightfly - Donald Fagen Total Life Forever - Foals Crack the Skye - Mastodon Undecided on which Porcupine Tree album to put here. (apologies if this thread has already existed)

    80s Party!

Inspired by the 80s music challenge thing that's going about Facebook at the moment, let's have an 80s party! Post your favourite 80s tunes, and let's dance! Only one rule, songs must have been originally released between 01/01/1980 & 31/12/1989. Other than that, have at it! Lets kick things off...
  19. Post your preferred format in here. I haven't got one at the moment, bit of a dilemma.
  20. I've been going through a pretty **** rough patch just lately, work is pissing me off, I have absolutely zero money (because of my shit job), people I know dying, people really close to me having pretty major health scares pretty much everything that can get thrown at me has been thrown at me in the last few weeks. Normally I never let things get to me at all and I can just plod on day by day but this time I found myself feeling really low, haven't been speaking to anyone, I dont think I have held a single conversation with anyone at work in over a week (nothing overly new there but still) Anyways I woke up this morning the usual thoughts ran through my head and I was pissed off again within about 30 seconds of waking up, then walking to the bus stop I put on the stone roses and almost straight away I had a smile on my face thinking back to good times I've had listening to the album over the last 15 years. I had a spring in my step for the first time in weeks, thinking about the laughs I had at college, the piss ups that we have had in our back gardens with it blasting out, the heaton park gig last year etc etc. Just made me think how **** powerful music can be and how it can affect your mood, for the time being at least the country music is going to the bottom of the pile and the happier shit is coming out. Does anyone else have any specific albums they pull out to cheer themselves up when they are **** off with life in general?
  21. BBC1 @ 8pm this Saturday LIVE from the Ericsson Globe in Stockholm, Sweden. The semi finals were held Tuesday and Thursday night, with the running order draw made early this morning. It is as follows; Belgium Czech Republic The Netherlands Azerbaijan Hungary Italy Israel Bulgaria Sweden Germany France Poland Australia Cyprus Serbia Lithuania Croatia Russia Spain Latvia Ukraine Malta Georgia Austria United Kingdom Armenia Ukraine are being tipped for success with their politically tinged track 1944 sung by Jamala, herself from Crimea. They didn't take part last year due to financial reasons and the on going conflict in Ukraine. The song concerns itself with deportation of the Crimean Tatars in the '40s by Stalin, and the chorus is sung in the Crimean Tatar language. It was accussed of being policitally loaded, which would have made it ineligible for the competition, but the EBU have confirmed it can take part as there is no 'political speech' in the lyrics. Instead, the song is inspired by stories that Jamala was told by her Grandmother, basically. What allegory is intentional is for the viewer to decide...
  22. I'm not ashamed to say I like Dire Straits, although I know that admission opens me up to heaps of ridicule, especially amongst Brits. That said, I heard "Sultans of Swing" on the radio today, and I almost wanted to drive my car into a utility pole. That would make my list, possibly. What songs make you homicidal/suicidal?
  23. Over half way through January and no one has started a new music topic yet, shame on you! My new years resolution as such was to buy at least one vinyl album a week, it needn't be a new release it could even be second hand but I would hope a lot of it is new. So far I've bought three albums but only one new release which is... The Advisory Circle - From Out Here Clips available here
