  1. Heard he's close to West Ham, Liverpool or Aston Villa (replacement for Emery if he leaves) I think he was linked to us before as a massive favourite before Emery joined. Excellent CV, one of the best young managers in the world. How do you think he does in the PL?
  2. Genuinely interested in who everyone thinks is the most overrated manager in the Premier League right now.
  3. Looks like his average is 3/4 years in any one job which is a worry but we do seem to be fluffing his bed
  4. Just had tin tack from Roma apparently......wonder if Dybala stays now ?
  5. Assuming Southgate leaves after Euro 2024, who would you like and who would you bet on? I think I might have a cheeky punt on Eddie Howe, who I think might be out of work by then. Not my dream appointment but think he could do a job since we have a deep squad and his tactics usually require it.
  6. With lots of talk on whether players and manager’s should accept Saudi money and whether Newcastle should accept blood money and be part of sport washing and whether Qatar or Saudi should be granted World Cups… Ashley Westwood, is this the one that’s ex of this parish? Anyway, being paid by the Taliban. Right, wrong, risky?
  7. Assuming we beat Hibs/Luzern, we have a crazy fixture schedule of 31 matches between now and the end of year: Sat 12th Aug 5.30pm - Newcastle (A) Sun 20th Aug 2pm - Everton (H) Thurs 24th Aug - Hibs / Luzern (A) Sun 27 Aug 2pm - Burnley (A) Thurs 31 Aug - Hibs / Luzern (H) Sun 3 Sep 2pm - Liverpool (A) Sat 16 Sep 3pm - Palace (H) Thurs 21 Sept - UECL group match 1 Sun 24 Sep - Chelsea (A) Wed 27 Sep - League Cup R3 Sat 30 Sep 12.30 - Brighton (H) Thurs 5 Oct - UECL group match 2 Sun 8 Oct - Wolves (A) Sat 21 Oct 3pm - West Ham (H) Thurs 26 Oct - UECL group match 3 Sun 29 Oct - Luton (H) Wed 1 Nov - League Cup R4 Sat 4 Nov - Nott Forest (A) Thurs 9 Nov - UECL group match 4 Sun 12 Nov - Fulham (H) Sat 25 Nov - Spurs (A) Thurs 30 Nov - UECL group match 5 Sun 3 Dec - Bournemouth (A) Wed 6 Dec - Man City (H) Sat 9 Dec - Arsenal (H) Thurs 14 Dec - UECL group match 6 Sun 17 Dec - Brentford (A) Wed 20 Dec - League Cup QF Sat 23 Dec - Sheffield (H) Tues 26 Dec - Man Utd (A) Sat 30 Dec - Burnley (H) Klopp would be wearing a black armband all year and Guardiola would be having a meltdown already. But seriously, how will Emery and the team cope with it? I hope it doesn't affect our league performance too much. From a personal point of view, i'm looking forward to having a match every 3-4 days from now until Christmas
  8. PeterSw

    Unai Emery

Surely time to start a new thread given the various links
  9. Who should be the next Aston Villa manager? These polls are always flawed -- it's just for fun, mates.
  10. Would love us to go out and get Ruben Amorim. Doing a top top job with Sporting! Winning titles and trophies. Topping their champions league group. We missed out on Potter. We shouldn't miss out on Amorim

    Carla Ward

Doing a good job. Carla Ward in for now.
  12. Best British Manager since Sir Alex What a manager! Would be a dream if he was a Villa manager. Brighton playing football like Pep's Barcelona.
  13. Mauricio Pochettino for me! Would be a massive coup. Who would you like to replace the underperforming Gerrard?
  14. From official site: “Aston Villa is pleased to announce Gerrard Nash will become Lead Under-18 Professional Development Phase Coach and Adem Atay who will take up the role of Under-18 Professional Development Coach. Nash has most recently been working with the FA of Ireland as their High Performance Coach and previously worked at Ipswich Town as both Under-18 Lead Professional Development Phase Coach and Under-23 Senior Professional Development Phase Coach.”. Nash is from Kildare in Ireland, and had a short playing career with Ipswich that was curtailed by injuries. Second Irish coach in the setup I think?
  15. Welcome to B6 Steven Gerrard
  16. I’ve a feeling this thread won’t be needed very long as an appointment will be made very quickly but this is the place for debating the names. Anyone who says Steve Bruce gets a 3 year VT ban.
  17. The people have spoken and the people have said, "Give us somewhere we can discuss whether we want a new manager, and if we do, who we want it to be". So here it is. Please use this thread to discuss whether you'd like a new manager, whether you'd rather stick with the current one, why you feel that way, what it would take to change your mind, who you'd like to come in if he goes and why you like them - all of that sort of stuff. As with player speculation, if there's an actual link in the press to a manager, we'll open a new thread for speculation on that individual manager, so if we're linked to Giorgio Frimponi and you know something about him, or something about the article, you can share it there. If you want to talk about Dean Smith and how he's doing, where he can improve, what you think he's doing well or his selections, please put that in the Dean Smith thread. This one is for all of the speculation, discussion and your thoughts on the current situation in regards to our future and the manager's position. Enjoy. (and stop googling Giorgio Frimponi.)
  18. No idea who Craig Hope is, or whether his reporting is worth worm dung.
  19. I’ve just included the current bottom 8 teams, but if you think it’s another then just comment. Just a bit of fun, but thought it might be interesting.

    Tommy Docherty

Former Villa boss Tommy Docherty died today following a long illness, aged 92. The Doc managed us from 1968 – 1970 and for me did a lot to get the fans flooding back to Villa Park and to raise the profile of our great club, at a time when we were at a very, very low ebb. RIP Tommy – HEITS.
  21. I've nailed my colours to the mast. I don't think Smith is doing a good job but for me the squad is the major issue we have faced all year and especially now. I thought i'd look at some of the players for our rivals who have played the majority of games for them to compare. I have no idea of formations and have just selected names based on appearances. West Ham Pablo Fornals 24, M(CLR) Mark Noble 33, M(C) Sébastien Haller 26, FW Aaron Cresswell 30, D(CL),M(L) Issa Diop 23, D(C) Angelo Ogbonna 32, D(C) Felipe Anderson 27, M(CLR),FW Robert Snodgrass 32, AM(CLR) Ryan Fredericks 27, D(R),M(R) Manuel Lanzini 27, AM(CLR) Lukasz Fabianski 35, GK Michail Antonio 30, D(R),M(CLR),FW Watford Abdoulaye Doucouré 27, M(C) Craig Cathcart 31, D(CR) Gerard Deulofeu 26, AM(LR),FW Etienne Capoue 31, D(C),M(CL) Roberto Pereyra 29, M(CLR),FW Will Hughes 25, M(CR) Craig Dawson 30, D(CR) Kiko Femenía 29, D(LR),M(R) Ismaila Sarr 22, AM(LR),FW Andre Gray 29, FW Christian Kabasele 29, D(C) Troy Deeney 32, FW Adam Masina 26, D(L),M(L) Nathaniel Chalobah 25, DMC Adrian Mariappa 33, D(CR) José Holebas 36, D(L),M(L) Bournemouth Callum Wilson 28, FW Philip Billing 24, DMC Ryan Fraser 26, M(CLR) Dominic Solanke 22, FW Jefferson Lerma 25, D(R),DMC Harry Wilson 23, AM(CLR) Nathan Aké 25, D(CL),DMC Steve Cook 29, D(C) Lewis Cook 23, M(CL) Diego Rico 27, D(L),M(L) Adam Smith 29, D(LR),M(R) Joshua King 28, AM(CLR),FW Now realistically, how many of our players would start regular games for our rivals? Jack 100% walks into any of those teams. Mings, maybe? Bournemouth weren't interested in keeping him but while he hasn't been amazing, Mings probably would start most games for them. Is there anyone else? Maybe peak Mcginn but I'm not sure his performances throughout the year would see him in all the time. Current Luiz maybe but certainly not most of the season. For me, this is why I can't turn on Smith, because while he isn't doing a great job and is clearly struggling, the quality of our players are so inferior compared to our rivals, I can't realistically demand we should be doing better than them all.
