    AFCON 2017

Though I 'd start a thread about the upcoming African Cup of Nations that is played in Gabon next year, starting January 15th and running to the 5th of February. Since we have a couple of important players potentially going there in Adomah, Ayew and Kodija it will likely have an effect on our season. But most of all it is usually a fun tournament with entertaining football ending in a penalty shootout and with Egypt as champions . Although in recent years it has been a bit more disciplined and goal shy. Not sure how it is in the UK, but in Sweden it's been on Eurosport for as long as I can remember so you can watch all the games on the telly. This time thou I will be in Uganda for the fist week of the tournament so that should be fun . Any thought on how it will finish and how our players will fare? Here are the groups:

  3. Just reading about the format for the 2016 Euro Finals. Christ, what a bloated mess it looks... 24 teams, 51 games, 31 days. The last tournament was 16 teams, 31 games, 23 days. 2 years of qualifying to reduce the pool from 53 to 24 teams, then 36 group games to get from 24 teams to 16. I fail to see how this improves the tournament in anyway other than increased TV revenue - although I realise that is of course the primary aim! Nice one Platini. I look forward to 2020, when presumably you'll invite guest teams from other federations and we can expand the tournament to 37 teams of something equally brilliant.
  4. hiding behind the Euros is the controversial 100th anniversary of Copa America which starts this weekend in USA. Except Neymar all of the stars from South America will be going like Aguero, Messi, Suarez, James, Sanchez and our very own Guzan and Carlos Sanchez Group A: USA Colombia Costa Rica Paraguay Group B Brazil Ecuador Haiti Peru Group C Mexico Uruguay Jamaica Venezuela Group D Argentina Chile Panama Bolivia

  7. Hi All, hoping someone might be able to help me... Anyone know how I can get two tickets for the England Russia game on Saturday, 11 June 2016, 9:00 PM. Stade Vélodrome, Marseille, France? They have some on viagogo.com but not sure if they are trustworthy? Any advice greatly received
  8. Saturday 4pm Sky Sports News Best & worst scenarios England Dream ticket: England, Iceland, Albania, Faroe Islands, Moldova, Andorra Nightmare scenario: England, Italy, Sweden, Turkey, Finland, Kazakhstan Wales Dream ticket: Wales, Bosnia & Hercegovina, Albania, Faroe Islands, Moldova Nightmare scenario: Wales, France, Ukraine, Turkey, Cyprus, Georgia Scotland Dream ticket: Scotland, Wales, Iceland, Estonia, Lithuania Nightmare scenario: Scotland, Germany, Italy, Turkey, Macedonia, Kazakhstan Northern Ireland Dream ticket: Northern Ireland, Romania, Iceland, Faroe Islands, Moldova Nightmare scenario: Northern Ireland, Spain, France, Republic of Ireland, Belarus, Malta How the draw works? The nine top seeds in Europe - including Wales and England - will first be drawn into a group. For TV rights purposes, England, Germany, Spain and the Netherlands will be drawn into groups of six teams, as will Italy and France from pot two. A team from each of the other four or five pots will then be drawn into each group to make up the nine groups. Games will be played from September 2016 to October 2017. The nine group winners will progress to the finals, while the eight best runners-up will take part in play-offs in November 2017. Pot 1 Germany, Belgium, Holland, Romania, England, Wales, Portugal, Spain, Croatia. Pot 2 Italy, Slovakia, Austria, Switzerland, Czech Republic, France, Iceland, Denmark, Bosnia-Herzegovina. Pot 3 Poland, Ukraine, Scotland, Hungary, Sweden, Albania, Northern Ireland, Serbia, Greece. Pot 4 Turkey, Slovenia, Israel, Republic of Ireland, Norway, Bulgaria, Faroe Islands, Montenegro, Estonia. 9. For any talk not about a particular game (which can go in a match thread) any FA news about the national team, things like that. The biggest frustration of the past week has to be Michael Carrick. Stop picking him! We are injury hit at CM (and I'm hoping that's what's stopping us from going 4-3-3 since it worked so well in Euro qualifying), but there's better options. He looked shit against San marino and when he came off for Shelvey at 2-0, within 10 minutes we were 5-0 up because Shelvey didn't hold on to the ball for half an hour before passing it straight to a defender. We do have a lot of ageing players, but Carrick isn't exactly young or even good enough. Infuriating. Can United please just sell him? He'd have no chance at getting in the team then. Who would you like to see in midfield? And what do you want to see? 4-3-3, 4-4-2 or 4-2-3-1?
  10. Klinsmann's USA team got off to an inglorious start today, losing away to Honduras, 2-1. I watched the second half, we looked pretty awful. Qualifying isn't going to be the cakewalk it's been lately for USA.
  11. The Colombian national team looks great leading up the the 2014 World Cup. A lot of young talent and also proven talent. Me being Colombian will certainly root for them as the dark horses for the WC. And being in 2nd in the South American qualifiers also shows their quality. What do you guys think?

  13. Might be interesting as a one off, but as a permanent fixture (not that that is mentioned in the article, though) would not be beneficial I believe - part of the magic of tournament football is the difference in culture and identity each host country/countries brings

  15. They'll be dancing in the streets of Newcastle (and West Ham) if this holds up. Ba and Cisse (and Diame) available through January in that case. Senegal banned from Nations Cup after riot
  16. From Mail Online... Major thing I'm talking away from that is that Super Savo apparently behaved like a gent. I'd have had him pegged as well up for the rumble.
