  1. The last couple of years has seen a real comeback for fighting games. We've had a new Street Fighter (and a revision), Netherrealm has given us a really good DC Comics fighter with Injustice 2, Tekken 7 was very well received, we got a new Mahvel, which bombed commercially but was actually considered quite good by the community I understand, today Dragon Ball Fighter Z (or Fighterz, which is stupid) comes out and so far word on that has been excellent (and it's gorgeous). Looking forward, there's a new Soul Calibur coming, and you'd get short odds on a new Mortal Kombat being announced at E3. And I'm certain I've missed something. Always loved a good fighting game. I've never been great at them, the best I ever got was being ok with Scorpion, Smoke and Reptile in the newest Mortal Kombats. I get schooled online without fail. Yet I can't help picking them up. I've never even watched Dragon Ball but I've got a copy of Fighter Z here. And I need to get back to Mahvel, which I've always been particularly shite at but it's got Marvel characters so it has my heart.
  2. ok, Useless had an idea for a thread, your favourite animal might just be a place to post cool photos of sharks, might lead to a debate about shitty sly cats versus sexy wise wolves first person to mention honey badgers or post a photo of a muppet drummer gets a wedgie currently my fave animal is: fox
  3. We've had a things that piss you off that shouldn't thread that went on for hundreds of pages. So I thought I'd start a more positive one. About things that cheer you up or make you feel good when you've been a bit down. If this makes it even 100th as long as the 'things that piss you off...' thread I'll be amazed! So anyway what's happened to you recently that's cheered you up or made you feel good. Anything really. From an unexpected phone call from someone you haven't heard from in ages, to finding a fiver in your jeans that you'd forgotten about. Maybe you've got a holiday to look forward to. Come on people let's have some positivity! I'll start us off. I go to Germany on Thursday for 9 days, followed by a day at the Notting Hill Carnival. Last weekend my best mate asked me to be best man at his wedding. I kind of thought that I would be anyway, it's was always going to be me or one other. But just to hear him say it felt good. And then to hear him tell his wife to be that there was no way he was getting married at the World Cup in Brazil if I wasn't going to be able to go (insurance issues relating to my illness, same as not being able to go to this World Cup). Finally after tomorrow I get four weeks off chemo, which will be great (especially as it means I'm off treatment for the Germany trip. So we've all got miserable things in our lives (me more than most probably) so come on, let's hear something good in your life or something that's cheered you up recently.
  4. Ok state your poll answer (I have been waiting years to do this for you Rob and I know you have waited longingly for it too) and then explain your reason for your answer...
  5. Big Think - This may be a worse case scenario generally, but I actually think some industries job losses will be even more acute. I'm currently working with people developing systems that will put many thousands out of work. So if you think it's shit now, how do you think Tory England (cos let's face it, Scotland's leaving) is going to deal with this? We must surely also add May that is trying to right royally screw up education for the poor, just to hammer in an even bigger wedge between the haves and have nots. The medium and long term picture for the majority is a race for the bottom as far as quality of life is concerned. Sticking two fingers up at this failing society and getting out of it becomes more attractive with every passing year. Especially with independently developed technologies improving all the time. A growing number of my friends are seeking alternatives. A few are proper hippy types in permaculture collectives and such. Another is raising a family in a yurt. This isn't quite as drastic as it sounds. It's a multi yurt, a large central space with smaller connected yurts - Think glamping more than camping. Others have moved to warmer climes and have installed solar power equipment. They grow much of their own food and trade with local farmers for dairy and meat products. They work in the UK over Summer to cover their bills such as N.I contributions. Another friend is making a 'Hobbit House' under a hill - Though I must admit her outside toilet gives me the fear! She should have an inside bog at some point. Her guest house is nearer completion. Visiting folks over Christmas it became obvious even friends earning good money were wanting out. I signed up to a couple of off grid collectives and it surprised me how much has been forgotten. For example it's possible to grow Mediterranean fruit further north in walled enclosures, as they create their own microclimate. Throw in a couple of polytunnels and you're starting to get towards being self sufficient for fruit and veg. Mixing the old and the new seems like the way to go. Septic tanks under the garden that break down effluent into nutrients that slowly pass through the walls of the tank and into your garden. These folks get a quite a bit of power out of a fairly small pipe. Apologies to Darren and the Tree Hugger thread. I'd discussed this with maqroll before, and I don't think you have to be a tree hugger to want something different in today's World.
  6. Following on from the previous thread, a new thread was advised to be started so here it is. Instant barbecues. What on earth? Horrible little things.
  7. I think has been mentioned in another thread but maybe an open discussion about it. Think its hard to look past Roger Federer he is such an immense athlete and still going at 37. For example he is 8 months older than John Terry and Tennis is a more physically demanding sport than Football. Just incredible Other names to be included could be Gretzky, Serena Williams and if they keep it up consistently for another 6 or 7 years Ronaldo and Messi
  8. Lots of discussion currently on these. They're getting worse. **** vile cynical money grubbing and has to be getting close to getting gambling regulations involved soon. They're shit. Jim Sterling had some good videos recently on them, might link to them later here.
  9. I do like a little quiz every now and then. I played with... Arjen Robben Scott Sinclair Jon Dahl Tomasson Manolo Gabbiadini Royston Drenthe Borja Valero Fernando Cavenaghi Won trophies in multiple countries. Who am I?

  11. What's the biggest thing you can think of? ONLY FRIGGIN' KIDDING!! HAR HAR. No, I'm somewhat fascinated by life in the 60s and 70s at the minute.. it's from my old man and mom, who lived through the time. But there's loads of things and questions I'm asking him about that time like; What was it like before motorways? The M5 was built outside my mom's mom's house, and she used to sit on the side waiting ages for a car to come past.. now look at the ****. It seemed we went from Steam engines, to electric really quickly.. when did diesels fit in? What did you think when they pulled up all the local train stations? As my parents were never from affluent families, it be interesting to know what life was like for people from the middle classes in those days. Having cars when not many people did etc. A lot happened and I'll think of more, feel free to ask more, but it would be cool to get the people in their 40/50/60s answers (if they don't mind!!)
  12. Driving to work seems to get slower and slower, and thats even without the hassle of finding somewhere to park. It got me thinking on average how far you could drive before you hit road works - ? - I had a figure in my mind of maybe 10-11 miles - but very unscientifically I know - I reckon the figure is about 6 (and I don't work in Central Birmingham) 9 Mile trip to villa park yesterday - I encountered 3 sets - Friday night I drove 15 miles to Boldmere 2 sets 6 miles to work - I currently encounter 1 - although thinking back throughout the year it has on occasions been 2 or 3 Staggering really.

    Property

Afternoon fellow Villians! I've just got started in a new career in property and was wondering if any other members on here were involved and what you do? It would be good to connect!
  16. So, less than a week to go. Certainly has crept up on me this year. Do not feel festive this year at all mainly because i've been ill since I got back from my holiday a month ago! No Xmas shopping done yet and haven't even listened to any Xmas songs either I missed out on a festive gig tonight (mate's band at Hare and Hounds in Kings Heath) and will probably miss my office Xmas party on Friday. What has everyone got planned? Hopefully I'll be well enough to visit my folks in their new gaff on the day itself. Other than that, not a lot.

    Flatulence

Funny things, farts. They are unique and varied. Some are sweet, some are loud, some are soft, some are destructive. They bring us laughter and relief but also great shame and embarrassment. Sometimes I wonder if the totality of human flatulence is affecting the ozone layer. You could hear my grandfather coming from rooms away because he'd fart while walking. Each step would trigger an additional release, propelling him onward. Because he was virtually deaf at the time, I doubt he heard the commotion. Lately I've had bazooka farts. A sudden surge of gas bottled up by my sphincter and then just as quickly booming outward with a satisfying baritone.
  18. I figure that by the end of this thread, the Flatulence thread will look highbrow. I just did a double take because I didn't know what I just swallowed. Dunno if it was a bite of the pizza I'm eating or a string of congealed blood dangling from the roof of my mouth because I had my rear molar pulled earlier today and I've been leaking blood. Pretty barbaric visit. He had to slice and dice around my gum line and make three saw cuts around the tooth before he took a set of jumbo pliers and twisted the thing out of there. The dental assistant was making pained sounds throughout. Not very helpful. But yeah, I've been reckoning with this swinging tendon of congealment, trying not to swallow it.
  19. So there are some old traditions and idiosyncrasies in football that are quite unique. Where do they come from? Is there any meaning to them? For example why a “hat trick” for three goals (not just football specific)? Then when you score a hat trick why do you get to keep the match ball?

    Watches

I think you can tell a lot about a chap by the kind of timepiece he wears. I don't spend a lot of money on clothes, I don't drink much, don't have a football season ticket and don't smoke. But I do like a nice watch, and when my Euromillions numbers come in, I want one of these: Made my Roger Smith here on the Isle of Man, he's widely considered to be one of the greatest living watchmakers, and there's something like a two year waiting list for one of his hand made watches, that can cost upwards of £50,000. So what do you go for? £9.99 Casio digital, or £25,000 Hublot?
  21. I mean I know some are - like if you have been digging a hole or day - then you dream of digging a hole, I can see the link. But what about when you have a typically ordinary day - but then dream you're a fighter pilot flying over Iraq ? - is there always a link, but you just can't see it ? or are they just wacco jibberish ? Do dreams serve a purpose ? - do we ever not dream ?

    Xbox One

Saints Row 4, Alan Wake 2, and a new COD game are also apparently already under development for Microsofts next Xbox. I guess it will be pretty much be a given that many here will buy it on release, and as much as I don't think I'll get one anywhere near it's release date (I have always been late to the party with Microsofts consoles I guess - didn't own an Xbox and only bought an old 2nd hand 360 on the cheap a good few years after release), I am really curious to see exactly what this will have under it's hood. The recent BF3 Beta has demonstrated very well that the latest in PC graphics can do considerably more than the latest home consoles, as the tech in those is getting on a bit now, after all. What features do you think we can expect? Blu-Ray drive? Built-in 1tb+ harddrive? Built-in motion control? MIND CONTROL?? 4D aka. SMELL-O-VISION???
  23. Anyone interested in these? Are they the real deal? I'm sure someone on here like @P3te must have used one before. The Oculus Rift will cost you £500 plus delivery charges from overseas. I would have been very tempted if it was about £300.
  24. A place to name and shame your clearings in the wood. Evidence your claims, please. There is little point naming someone without providing evidence My starter for ten Doesn't matter how she dresses it up, that's a sore loser. Always been a horror anyway but this is just her latest atrocity. It's impossible to fathom why she thought to tweet that was a good idea
