  1. Usually the transfer window is a time for excitement about new players, and I am very pleased with the Terry signing. I've really come round to it in a big way. Clearly we also need a keeper (probably Johnstone), we know Bruce wants Whelan (and you have to think it'll happen), and personally I'd like to see a quality attacking player come in given that this was our main downfall last year. This is all well and good, but our squad size is ridiculous. In many ways therefore I'd argue that pruning the squad effectively is at least as important as who comes in. Currently we have 34 players i
  2. Surely its time for a new one of these? BRUCE OUT
  3. Aston Villa transfer priorities: The players Steve Bruce needs for promotion A 13th place finish in the Championship in 2016-17 shows the extent of the job at hand for Steve Bruce at Aston Villa, with a big summer ahead for the Midlands club. The Villans boss has been vocal over his desire to clear out a lot of the current squad in the next few months, while a host of new men have been linked with a move to the club ahead of next season. Given the amount of expenditure Villa have outlaid since Dr Tony Xia took over at the club, there will certainly be plenty of failed acquisitio
  4. These are the usual suspects when discussing who we all want to see leave, or arguing should be kept on for another season. I was just curious if you could only pick one, who it would be? I always have a sense of the silent majority being against certain players leaving, the flip side of the coin being some people wanting them all gone. But for both those extremes and everyone in the middle, who is it you dislike being part of our club the most?
  5. What - too early? Well Christmas is about to bite you on the b*llocks, so I disagree. More so because we have a new manager almost in and I want to discuss the most likely signings of Huddlestone and Elmohamady.
  6. Imagine we beat Brighton on the last day scraping in to 6th place on GD. Toon winning the league Brighton 2nd 3rd - Leeds 4th - Reading 5th - SHA 6th - Aston Villa Both Semi's decided on penalties ....and then Aston Villa v SHA playoff final @ Wembley to decide who goes up to PL Could you handle it?
  7. http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/burnley-aston-villa-want-joey-9222596 Burnley and Aston Villa want Joey Barton transfer as end of his short-lived Rangers career looms. Summer-signing midfielder will be a free agent if the expected pay-off is agreed this week with Scottish giants who suspended him for two months in September Joey Barton is on the brink of a pay-off from Rangers after being signed off with stress. Burnley , the club midfielder Barton helped win promotion to the Premier League last season, and Championship Aston Villa are waiting in the wings
  8. Seems all sorts of rumours about the new backroom team Brucey will bring with. Keith Berschin (Really !) Clemence and Walsh were reported by the telegraph. Steve Clarke - is well liked with in the game and from what I can gather is an easy enough bloke to get along with. My only reservation would be that he sat on his backside whilst the team floundered. Berschin - would be a complete joke imo - I remember my bluenose mates used to take the rip out of him in the 70's -"superpuff" and the "breast feeding centre forward" I think we should retain our current fitness coach- ch
  9. If promotion this season is still a target, apart from a change of manager & coaching staff, what other options do we have? Loans? non contracted players? Youth players? In other threads I've often pointed to squad depth as a problem. I'm of the opinion that we didnt buy enough players in the summer. Not all of our signings could have hit the ground running or settle in straight away anyway. So where are we now? I think we are short in the following positions/areas. 1 - GK - as good as Gollini may become, we dont have a good enough back up IF he eith
  10. Should rdm be rightly dismissed from the role who would you pick and why? Personally I'd go for Rowett as he has shown a capability of building and motivating a team to compete in this league with far less resources. I think he would relish the opportunity of working with far superior players and would have us competing pretty quickly. He has shown he can work with a basket case club under difficult circumstances and he would be highly motivated to do well for us
  11. The good man Dr Tony last night tweeted that there will be announcement of the new Technical Director next week. Any theories as to who this could be ? - I wonder if he has in any way had a hand in the mainly british based players we have sourced so far ? - There was talk of some overseas guys a while back -I would really like to be Graham Taylor though
  12. With relegation looking increasing likely, I think Garde will soon start planning for next season. The question is how many of the current squad should be retained? I can only think of the following that I'd like to keep. Bunn Bacuna Okore Richards # Bennett Gana # Veretout # Westwood Grealish # Traore # Ayew # # Players unlikely to stick around after relegation.
  13. Seems like this one is happening finally reported everywhere now. Here Also here
  14. http://www.eurosport.co.uk/football/serie-a/2016-2017/ravel-morrison-set-to-leave-lazio-for-aston-villa_sto5732663/story.shtml Ravel Morrison set to leave Lazio for Aston Villa By FootballItalia 31 minutes ago Ravel Morrison has been left out of the Lazio squad again as rumours grow that he will be heading to Aston Villa. The Aquile begin their Serie A season tonight against Atalanta. Morrison is not even in the travelling party to Bergamo, d
  15. Rumours he could be a permanent member of the board. If you want to go into conspiracy mode - is he actually the supplier of funds to purchase the club, while presenting Tony Xia as the mega rich squeaky clean front man ? - sounds far far fetched, but thats exactly what happened at Reading. The rich billionaire who supposedly brought the club, just disapeared - leaving Reading on the verge of bankruptcy. Not beyond that realms of possibility that the same thing will happen here... http://www.getreading.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/chris-samuelson-former-reading-fc-113550

ok so it appears i am blind and didn't see the other article please delete this topic
  17. Yes please to this as he is a very good keeper! Probably should never have left Sunderland only because of the emergence of Jordan Pickford. Much better keeper than Mannone who finished the season for them. http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/new-aston-villa-boss-roberto-8232488
  18. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3611434/Roberto-Di-Matteo-inching-closer-named-Aston-Villa-manager.html?ITO=1490&ns_mchannel=rss&ns_campaign=1490 With Di Matteo rumoured to become Villa's manager in the next few days, it would be realistic to create a thread about him, even if it's just speculation at the moment. What do you think of him? How long will he be Villa's manager for? Is this the start of a new managerial era?
  19. So with the supposed take over supposedly being cancelled/failed, we need to generate more money. Apparently today the north stand was being cleaned (first time in yrs?). Maybe something is in the pipeline re the remaining of VP? I wouldn't be adverse as it would still be known as VP .

    Lovre Kalinić

    Looking likely now: http://www.101greatgoals.com/blog/aston-villa-are-signing-hadjuk-goalie-lovre-kalinic-for-e6-5m-slobodna-dalmacija/
  21. Discuss ... I realise we have so many big problems to worry about right now, but I can't help but begin to think that January represents a possible ladder out of hell for us. We need a striker or number 10, a keeper, and a center back, from what I can see.
  22. Loan to end of the season. Few papers running it so someone's been tipped off. May be at the game tonight (that's me speculating). http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/aston-villa-transfer-news-debuchy-10744251

  24. Should he not get his own thread now? Been rumoured for weeks and now our manager has confirmed he's on our list of targets. I don't think he'll keep us up...he couldn't keep QPR up when he joined mid season in 2012-13 despite them being in a better position. He's a good striker but not that good. That said he was what we needed at the start of the season, lots of pace and and can score in 6 yard box. Him and Ayew would be a good combination imo and fun to watch, we might actually win a game before the end of the season. Would still class it as a long shot, I doubt Chelsea will
