  1. Great signing and to be honest I could give a **** about the length of contract, it aint my money thats been spent. 1st class keeper, proven and extremely well liked in the prem. Welcome to AVFC Mr Given
  2. Didnt see the game personally but spoke to many who did and recieved a mixed bag of comments ref JM. Personally I dont think much more than an average performance could of been expected based on the fact that it was his first game for the club and everything, everyone and the pace of the game muct have been com, pletely different thaty what he is use to, plus poor match fitness thrown in. I remeber when i used to play semi-pro ice hockey and joined a new team down south. My first few games were pretty poor until i clicked with my team mates and understood the way the coach wanted me to play. I dont think premiership football, or any other sport in that fact, is any different. Give the lad a month to settle, learn the lingo and gel with the team and im sure he'll come good. If not then ta-ra!
  3. Personally i think it will be a good signing for us, he works hard and definately knows where the back of the net is. He has scored 36 goals in 63 appearances for the Cats which, even if you dont like stats, isnt somthing to be ignored. We havent had an out and out striker here for years, Bent could be the one especially with the service Young, Albrighton, Walker and Downing can provide. I dont give a rats ass at the price, it aint my money. All I care about is getting someone in that can finish! Even more so when you look at out main 3 strikers and their PL goals this season: Heskey 3, Carew 0, Gabby 0.
  4. Great result for the Villa. 1st half was pretty decent but again we looked bad for majority of the 2nd half. Absolutely awesome header from Heskey for the winner, happy for him.
  5. Im relatively happy with the appointment, GH has a good history post heart op and did good things at Liverpool. Hope everyone gets behind the team and the manager as this is the only way success can be gained. Will be interesting to see how he implanents his sty;e of play on our squad and who he picks. Obviously the Stoke game will be picked apart but being realistic we wont see his influence for a few weeks yet. Good luck Mr Houllier, welcome to Villa Park.
  6. OH MY GOD!!! how did that not go in
  7. How did Carew miss that lol!!!
  8. Very impressing today, Albrighton looks a star
  9. Not amazing but a pretty good window! I think the squad has improved on last season now Dunne is a done deal. Yes we havent replced Barry as such but Delph and Downing will fill that gap (I hope). Happier to see more depth in defence which is where we struggled last season. However, would have loved to see a top striker come in to shake things up a bit
  10. Well my 2cents woth is that Barry has been excellent for us (and England) this season and i for one will be very sad to see him go this summer if he does.
  11. Exactly, i think far too many people are hinging their 'unhappyness' on the lack of signings in July lol. However, when you consider the teams around us and their transfer activity then we are on a par, if not slightly ahead: Everton - ZERO Pompey - Peter Crouch, Glen Little Blackburn - Paul Robinson Man City - Ben Haim, Jo, Newcastle - Guthrie, Gutierrez Spurs - Bently, Bostock, Gomes, Modric, Dos Santos, Villa - Guzan, Fridel, Sidwell, Davies So looking at that we're in pretty much the same boat as the rest. We have another 28 days of the window left......chiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiill
  12. Spurs did exactly the same last season, spent loads and did nothing. Pompey......who have they really signed other than Crouch this summer??? I understand what your saying, im getting fustrated about our buys too but im sure its the way we work. It seems like we keep our targets quite until fees have been agreed which surely is the correct way of doing things?? From looking that other clubs transfer activity this season none have really done any more than us (outsidfe the top 4). Yes Spurs have been the one club that has spent but lets not forget they made a cool £20mill from the same of Keane. I honestly dfo have faith in our board and MON and im sure we'll get the players needed before the window shuts. But honestly, i would rather MON picks and chooses the players he wants that just random purchases to make up numbers.
  13. I disagree with your statement about the way MON and the board has handled the Barry situation, i think we;ve tried to go about it 100% the right way. MON never wanted Barry to go and did his best to try and make him stay, even offering a new contract. It is Barry himself and Liverpool who have gone about this the wrong (public) way and decided to take this to the press. I actually feel sorry for MON because he really needs to know what the **** is going on so he can prepare for the season. All this Barry shit is doing nothing more than throwing a spanner in the works for our season preperation. Does MON factor Barry into our squad or not, id he goes he needs replacing and as SSN said, if Liverpool decide to leave it until the last day of the window then we are screwed. Im not pissed with the board over this farce, it 100% **** off with Barry, his rocket polisher agent and Liverscum for **** us around! Afterall they magically found £20mill for Robbie Keane who werent even in their plans 4 months ago!!!!!!
  14. Whats not to be happy about folks? - Progression over the last 2 seasons to a 6th place finish last season - Great manager in MON running our football team - Qualification to the UEFA cup this season - Exciting football being played - New owners running the club much better - Some of the UK's best talents in our squad I think people are getting carried away far too much with the fact that the transfer window is quiet(ish) for us at the moment. But thats the way AVFC are playing it, not leaking out who we are chasing, which to be fair is the professinoal way of doing things. I, like many, are slightly confused with our transfer policiy when you consider we are lacking in certain departments, a RB seems the be the main issue. Having said that i dont mind who is in the team so long as they do the business and get the results. I cant believe more pople are unhappy than happy when you consider who was running the club and where we were in the league just a few seasons ago....very sad and seems many have short memories.
  15. i agree Owen would never sign for us, unfortunately. however, if he did I would welcome the signing with open arms as he is a true professional and an exceptional player. He goals-to-game ratio is as good as any striker in the world and even 80% from his best still managed to bag a goal in the last england game. Certain people have started to question hiom because he's been injured for so long, but we all know a 100% on form fit Owen is the 1st choice for any England or prem team and would slot right into ANY decent team around the world....FACT!
  16. Dont think they have actually signed yet. Nani only passed his medical this afternoon!
  17. Barnes would be a fantastic signing...except I have it on very good authority that he won't be leaving Derby. Yeah, radio 1 news just quoted him as saying he wont be leaving Derby now they are promoted. i'm not saying that at all VillaBoy. I will give them a chance but i would be dissapointed at first. I don't doubt MON's judgement but i wouldn't be overly excited by Kewell or Gravesen I remember watching Tommy Gravesen playing for Madrid 2 seasons ago, was a pretty decent player - very gritting and tough tackling. He was always in their first 11 too, shipped out after 1 season mind so who knows. I wouldnt mind him as a signing, his hardness is much needed in midfield, but wouldnt be over the moon if he was shown off as our main signing.
