  1. I'd almost forgotten what life before the internet was like. Many a happy teenage minute was spent with a couple of well thumbed pages from The Fog and the latest Grattan catalogue.
  2. Dachau was a concentration camp.. not a death camp. It has long since been acknowledged that there were no 'death camps' (places deliberately established for the extermination of enemies of the Nazi state) on German soil. The six remaining places recognised as death camps; Auschwitz-Birkenau, Treblinka, Sobibor, Belzec, Majdanek and Chełmno, are all in modern day Poland and were all liberated by the Red Army. But look I'm not here to get all 'holocaust denier' on everyone or dent any American egos..I'm as distressed by the photos as anyone else.
  3. Shocking pics! Although just for the sake of historical accuracy the Yanks didn't discover or liberate any of the death camps.
  4. Whilst the death of any man is a tragedy for his close family we shouldn't mourn this guy as if he was some kind of hero. Rodney King can be labled many things (violent thief, drunk driver, drug abuser) but he shouldn't be held up as some kind of martyr for the progression of black rights in the US. Yes he got an excessive beating that was unjust but that doesn't make him a good guy.
  5. Sholud be targeting a minimum of 50 points with at least 9 home wins. That should be a good base on which to build and keep the fans off the manager's back.
  6. Agreed! I can't think of one player on the books either now or during MON's reign that we had to pay a premium for in order to prise him from the grasp of a London club.
  7. 8 pages into a most hated celebrity thread and no mention yet of Russell Brand?!
  8. Is that a Freudian slip or some kind of street talk I'm not au fait with?
  9. So if a government developed the ability to effectively read peoples thoughts they would only use it for covert communications? If they ever get this off the ground it could have a massive impact on human civilisation! Great stuff though
  10. I'm confused :? Private access to the PM is openly advertised on the Tory Party website and (although I haven't checked) I'm faily sure all other major parties would give preferential treatment to major donors (Would Millipede refuse a meeting with Bob Crowe? ) The Leader's Group
  11. Personally I find his pseudo-intellectualism tedious. If he was playing a gig in my garden shed, I don't think I'd even bother to open the kitchen window to hear him.
  12. Haven't you heard? Shiny is the new matt!
  13. So stop avoiding the question! Are you?! Are you one of those? :winkold:
  14. Surely you've just committed the cardinal sin of tea-time etiquette?
  15. I think you must be confused. I agree with the comedian. But there is a HUGE line to be drawn between being "offended" and being abused. Perhaps you need to learn the difference before you leave the house again. I think I am confused, Is your contention that all abuse should be should be eradicated from the game: "You're s**t and you know you are" "What a w**ker, what a w**ker" "Karen Brady is a f**king slag" "Sad bluenosed b**tard" or should we concentrate on the most offensive type of abuse? Maybe if you draw that HUGE line for me and I can leave the house because I desperately need some milk.
  16. I worked as an extra on a short lived BBC series called Mortimer's Law back in the late nineties. My overriding memory of which was spending the day filling my face in the catering truck. One of my big regrets in life was never applying to go on Knightmare because none of my mates would agree to be the one who had to wear the helmet
  17. I think pretty much sums up my feelings on all the recent race rows.
  18. **** me, there's a blast from the past I'd long forgotten about! I used to fancy the pants off Miss Popov and yet I often wonder why I can't feel the same way about Audrey Roberts?
  19. A brief study of Soviet Russia or Communist China might answer that question?! :winkold:
  20. I don't know about online but libraries usually hold copies of old electoral rolls. My advice would be to find the main library of the area and if it's close enough go there or if not call and ask the librarian very nicely if they could check it for you.
  21. I doff my cap to Michelsen and his attempts to bring some rational to this thread.
