Effectively 118-1. What we don't need is the usual mid-innings collapse after lunch. Duckett started well then fell. Crawley has started well and is prone to then letting his innings collapse. Root has been awful since day 1 of the series so we need runs from him for a change. Real chance to post a good score and have enough time to try and take the 10 Australian wickets
-
Duckett out once again playing at one he could do with leaving. Shocker. Better ball than the dross he usually gets himself out to but still massively avoidable
-
Massive day for England. Down 1 batter, Ashes on the line..... need 250+ from this innings you'd think. I think they're all out for 150. Woakes probably batting 3 because Moeen injured himself. Australia will have 2 days to chase whatever England can muster which should be enough for Labuschagne to reach 40 n.o.
-
It's constant with this side. They just try and bounce the tail out despite the fact that helps them score runs. Just bowl at the stumps and pin them in front or get them playing on

England giving tailenders what they want instead of bowling straight. I wish others bowled at our tailenders like we do

Agreed on Bairstow though. Don't think anyone has cost us as much as he has this series. Could be the key reason for 3 defeats at this rate
-
Being hit on the outside half of off stump and that is apparently swinging past the leg stump. Jesus.
-
Not surprised. Renault been reversing down the grid so fast they'll be starting in the pits
-
Smith showing Labuschagne up here. What a waste of an innings from Labuschagne. Did nothing except guarantee 15-20 kids watching this are never going to pick up a cricket bat ever
-
Absolutely horrendous by Bairstow for the Labuschagne wicket. Just ignored an easy catch. Luckily Root didn't
-
Just 9 more to get. Just a massively disappointing day overall.

Mind-numbing bowling so far. We seem surprised that Australia aren't as cavalier with their wickets as us

A dismal second half of the innings. Bright but short knocks from Woakes and Wood but 7 wickets for about 100 runs is **** awful. Let's hope we can knock 3 or 4 of these out before close. Bit of a vain hope but we need something like that
-
250-7 at tea. Good mini-recovery by Woakes and Wood after some horrible failures from the supposed batsmen. Australia still on top and you'd bank on them bundling England out for under 300. How much we can limit them to remains to be seen but I'd be surprised if they're not well ahead after both innings
-
Now Brook. Been a hideous afternoon for England. Australia haven't even had to have bowled well, the wickets have been gift-wrapped

Bairstow gone for 5. Shocker
-
Stokes gone. Into England's tail now....
Side note this is about as dark as the other day when England were made to bowl both ends as spin.....
-
Moeen gone to no-ones surprise but he's got a couple of runs on the board after injuring himself. Shame to give Todd Murphy test wickets though. Like getting out to Dom Bess
-
Root gone, Ali will be gone shortly and Brook looks like he wants to get out for 23 too. This could be all over pretty quickly
-
There ends Ducketts innings in classic style, being caught down the leg side. Is there a cricketer that keeps getting out down the leg side more? Feels like he gets out once per match on the leg side
-
Watching Duckett and Crawley bat at times like watching a toddler on top of a wall next to a crocodile enclosure. Can't take your eyes off it but it's nerve-shredding stuff

Watching LA Confidential (Amazon Prime) for what I think is the 36th time. What a film.

Red Bull are dominating now, Mercedes had a stranglehold for a decade, Red Bull had a few years before that, and Ferrari dominated for years. There's always been one team dominating and one car that's super faster than everyone else. Last year would have been a great title fight if Leclerc was a better driver and Ferrari were a better team.
I do think they need to trial some races without DRS to encourage genuine overtaking. And I've been a strong advocate of refuelling being brought back.

Shambolic that in 2023 we still lose 2 days play to rain instead of pushing the days back. We would be ahead if not for some terrible play from our players and our stupid keeper selection

That's true. He did get a decent innings. Shame he succumbed so quickly after Crawley.
I type this as Crawley slashes behind as he is prone to doing. Frustrating. Now we need 2021 Root to appear
