  1. Watching Casino Royale - one of my favourite Bond films with one of the best themes and opening credits

Side note,  my dad got hold of a copy of this just after visiting China and as this was the last Bond film I didn't see in the cinema we thought it was a dodgy copy entirely in black and white and stopped watching 2 minutes in first time around 😀

Was the race as bad as 1 post suggests?

Wasn't as bad as some races. Sainz didn't start, Perez started from the pits and looked awful, Hamilton torpedoed himself out of the race first corner, Leclercs car looked like it had something wrong with it.... So there's 4 of the top 8 cars not influencing the race. The McLarens drove really strong races and couldn't be challenged as easily by Russell who would have been a non-factor if not for the safety car bunching the pack up meaning he could easily cut through the back markers and get in the top 6

The tyres situation meant everyone was pitting every 20 laps so overcuts and undercuts were limited. The circuit itself seems like a lot of overtaking is possible, to the point where 3 cars were abreast like about 12 times over the weekend.

So an interesting battle outside the good teams as Alfa in particular had a good race but a completely skippable race overall

  3. Well, that's three titles for Verstappen. You have to wonder whats standing between him and his 4th title next year....

Piastri with a first "win" although I don't think it counts in the all-time list I'd assume? Really impressive drive and held his nerve.

Biggest sprint takeaway was how shit the soft compound looked after 8 laps

  4. Brilliant drives from Norris and Sainz. Red Bull screwed themselves on the first safety car but a great recovery drive from Verstappen. Leclerc and Russell squandered their races in different ways, and Hamilton snuck in and took a podium

  5. Yeah 12 Angry Men is possibly the best film ever made, usually floating around on Amazon Prime but I secured myself a Blu-Ray of it instead.

Amazing how well some of the 30s and 40s films hold up today considering.

Each to their own, but that is quite the ridiculous rule you've applied to yourself there.

You are missing out on so many superb films.

Appropriate I've seen this exchange then as I entertained myself yesterday evening by watching "The 39 Steps" which is nearly 90 years old and still really, really good

The competition for worst track on the calendar is more competitive than the drivers world championship.

I'm fairly sure I've seen 12 tracks described as the worst track on the calendar

  8. Man, William Friedkin. What a master behind the camera. French Connection, Exorcist, Sorcerer probably one of the best 1-2-3 punches of any director. Even his lesser films had brilliance and enjoyability in them.

  9. On an Amazon Prime rampage recently.

Watched Casino the other night - always really watchable.

Then last night In The Heat of the Night - Sidney Poitier at his best.

And tonight's film - Paths of Glory

Did the relentlessness of the Ashes make it better though? I mean the players might not agree but every test apart from one was a classic. I do entirely agree that shunting the Ashes out the way for the Hundred is farcical anyway.

True. But I don't think we play the Aussies in an ODI series either which is baffling given how good the last home ODI series was

  11. Was an interesting game at the end yesterday but I can't see anything the 100 brings that the normal T20 doesn't.... other than fewer balls to score off. And fewer teams.

Not really worth compressing the Ashes into July for was it?

England refused to meet the Aussies for drinks yesterday after the game as is tradition

England have come out of this series looking incredibly poor off the pitch. Lots of smugness, lots of whinging and now this. Ironically the things they used to say about the Aussies

No they didn't. Stokes clarified this earlier on twitter. England's post-series wrap-up ran over, presumably because of the two retirements so the Aussies and the England players went out for drinks at a nightclub after.
