Wish I could find a match report and team lineup for this game. I may be way off but did Cyrille Regis play as well? I know he was still playing at the time (just!).

That's right! and Allan Evans too? Seems to be very much a "forgotten match". Asked lots of my Villa mates about it and none of them seem to remember it. Nothing much on the internet either.

I'd be interested to know if anyone else can remember this "friendly" game back in 1996 (I think.) at St. Andrews? It was John Frain's testimonial match. I remember it being a night game and we hammered them from start to finish. I think I'm right in saying it was 6 nil? I'm sure at some stage even Brian Little, the then Villa manager, got on the pitch and played. I will also never forget the sight of Villa fans ripping up the old wooden benches in the back of Railway Stand and passing them over the heads of fellow fans to the stewards at the front. BCFC's response was to make a tannoy announcement to all Villa fans to please behave and to remind us that this was only a friendly, testimonial match. I think the stewards also let a load of City's firm into the Villa end towards the end of the game and it kicking off a bit? Anyway, was a great game! Would be interested if anyone else as any memories of this game and also if anyone knows more of the match details like lineups, goal scorers, attendance etc. Cheers!

We also had David James and Enckelman back then so he would have needed to have had several to get a regular first team spot KHV. :winkold: Enckelman was the worst keeper we have ever had in my lifetime by miles. I have to disagree. Schmeichel was absolutely shocking when he "played" for us. Except for his goal that is.

as previously mentioned, Nil Lamptey. That wonder goal he scored against Wigan (?) in the Coca Cola Cup (?) when we won 5-nil (?). somebody please find a clip and link me to that goal. Proper stunner, (the goal that is) if my memory serves me correctly.

Anyone else remember during the early 90's singing "Shaggy, Shaggy, Shaggy..." from the bottom right of the Holte when the same bearded man used to walked up the Witton Lane touchline? Think he was a program seller????

Would I be surprised if he left? No! Would it be a signal to any Villa player worth over 10mill that you are better off at a bigger club? Yes!

Anybody know the pub situation? I normally drink in the Aston Hotel before games. Will any pubs be open around Villa Park before or after the game? Ta.

Was shocked to find this thread but very pleased! Been following the Giants since 87. Last Christmas a mate of mine in NY took me to see the last Giants game in Giants stadium against the Panthers. Shocking game but stunning tailgate party! The old stadium was big but the new one dwarfed it. Will hopefully try that one out this season. UTV - Go G-Men
